aw damn ;(
Missed you man, have fun in cali and come for the next war.

I think today went pretty well, besides lack of people and having to move but that wasn't even that bad, since we found a new area that's cool to play in. The only thing that sucked was dart recovery, so I don't know if we should ever go there again or keep it traditional. Fun war guys!

EDIT: Here's some war footage,

Great war everybody, This was one of the best NENOs I've been to in a while.

For the uninitiated: There was a wedding going on in the usual staging area which forced us to play in a different location than usual. An open area with sparse cover around the edges, and a ravine with ample cover, trees, growth, etc. Basically the most awesome thing ever, at least in my eyes. I'll do the BS pros/cons thing, but read the end, there are lessons to be had here.

PROS
-The CTF rounds in the ravine allowed the attacking team to shoot downward. I remember picking off three people in about ten seconds as an attacker.
-Ravine still had enough cover to be good for defense as well.
-Open field rounds were fun too, charging between what concealment is available is exciting.
-Good amount of down time. I don't mind chilling around at these things.
-FOUR PLUS ONES came with me. We takin' over, trick
-Of the dozen or so that attended, 5 blasters were built solely by me, and three blasters were modded or fixed by me. I have fathered or fostered 75% or the blasters there yesterday.
-Gittin' dat action cam footage to make sweet youtube money.
-Was not in excrutiating pain from my bad knee, and played 90 percent of the rounds anyway.
-Did not get sunburn

CONS
-That means most blasters have the same range as mine
-SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: In one of the ravine rounds, three or so people were posted up rainbow six style behind the staircase of the big ass fountain trying to push into the wooded area. Meanwhile, there's a GODDAMN WEDDING going on and they were taking photos at that very fountain. We are meant to be but a whisper in the wind at these places, we are not to interfere with outsiders at all, and if anyone at that wedding didn't think we were troublemakers, they sure as shit do now. Same thing a little while later, there was a duel in the open field that got way too close to the path. We get carried away, people, I get that, it happens to me too, but we are the bitches there. We don't have the authority to kick out the wedding, and we don't want to have them ask us to leave.

Very good war. Honestly if we did that area again I would have zero issue with it, I loved it. Just keep your heads up, gentlemen, and we'll be fine.
War video right here.

I think this was the best NENO that I have hosted or attended. The main reason for this was because of a wedding that kicked us out of our usual area of the park and forced us to improvise. At around 1pm we had to move our staging area halfway across the park into a new untested wooded area. At first I thought that it wouldn't work but I figured out how to run defence CTF and that created some "very interesting nerfing" as stated by DX. Some of the rounds turned into water war style rounds which proved very interesting.

I would like to thank everyone for helping with the move and keeping the frequent rounds, fun time, and participation going. At our peak we had 14 people. This was less than normal, but it proved very fun and was a good group size compared to the 25+ we had at NENO 12. I would like to thank Langley, DX, Aeromech and Nick for their help running the war and providing constant feedback on what to do next.

We had four areas to play in at this war. In the morning we were in our regular playing area where we warmed up, then we had to move staging areas and ended up in an area with spaced trees, an open field, and a woods with plenty of cover and varied terrain. We played objective games in the woods, 3/15 in the trees, and freeze tag and 3/15 in the open field. In the morning we also played pistols and countdown in our normal area. I think we will continue to play countdown because it was a great game type and it is something different. I wished we had played other game types, but this turned into a test war which we can build on for future events.

This isn't usually done in war threads but I am going to analyze team strategy. I will be describing four rounds of defense CTF with the defenders playing 3/15 and the attackers having unlimited lives with a respond. The team that gets the flag in the least amount of time is the winner. It is timed and we switch sides after each round. The area we played in had a steep hill on one side with woods and trails at the top and a ravine and basin area with cover surrounding it. There is footage of what it looks like in some videos.

In the first round my team defended. Since we didn't know what we were doing being this was the first time we have played here and were figuring things out, the other team obtained the flag in 2 minutes 15 seconds. When we switched, my team took 8 minutes and 32 seconds to get the flag. An embarrassing defeat.

We made new and more fair teams, adjusted the game and respond to make it better, and the outcome was closer. My team defended first. We set up with one person behind a tree guarding the main entry, Snoop behind a log right behind the flag, we sent two people up the hill to shoot down and cut off any attack from that side, and DX and I took the center and right. We were evenly distributed and able to effectively cover the area.

The opposing team had a different plan than our defense (keep in mind they couldn't see into the area from the respond before the round started.) They sent Langley down the middle and everyone else around up to the top of the hill in a big push from the left to get the flag. We compensated by having DX 1 vs 1 Langley. Another teammate and myself moved positions to assist our team members on the hill. Then the other team regrouped and came at us from the right and center in a normal attack formation. They eventually got the flag.

We then attacked. Our plan was the exact same as theirs. Everyone figured out that the hill was a very strategic position and taking it allowed a defensive retreat from that area. We sent DX down the center and everyone else around and up a different part of the hill to engage the enemy in the woods at the top of the hill. We drove them back, however they reinforced that position (similar to what we did) and in the end we beat them by 18 seconds. The second game was more of a real round and worked very well.

We also played a 3/15 in that area but were forced to stop the round and change locations because of the wedding. People were too close to the photos. That round didn't go well for my team. It was the first time playing in that area too.

There was also a Nick against DX 1 vs 1 where if Nick won Langley would give him a Nerfhaven wrist band and if DX won nothing would happen. DX ended up beating him but it was close!

We had a raffle, something that hasn't happened since NENO 8 and I think we will continue to have them because they are fun.

This war also turned into an APOC warmup because of all the rounds we played in the open. Everyone's dodging improved in the many freeze tag rounds. They were fast to organize and very fun to play in.

We ended the day with a 3 team 3/15 with 3 players per team (some people were packing up). My team won in the end with DX and Jonah taking on the last surviving player on Nick's team.

Thank you all for coming! There is now a debate on what part of the park to host NENOs. I don't know when the next one will be because DX and I have begun to plan a Cedar Hill war in New Haven which will be a completely different nerfing experience. See you all soon!

So can I assume that we'll be having Neno 14 in the formally "untested wood area?" Are you guys not sure yet?

Probably so everyone else can test it out. I say that we have a variation system where odd numbers mean new area and even the old, or vice versa

There seems to be a divide on those who like the woods, and those that don't, and it seems to be based on how expensive your darts are, due to poor dart recovery in the woods. Without dart considerations, the play in the woods area was some of the best I've ever had.

My vote is "fuck yeah, woods"

The people with cheap darts are going to loose them even faster, because they blend in more. I'm fine with playing a few rounds in the woods, I had an okay time playing attack/defend rounds. But it's not great for 3/15, because someone is always going to start on the 'good side', and I don't want to spend the whole day in the woods, and loose all my darts in the leaves. I'd be happy to play a whole day on that side of the park like we did this weekend, splitting our time between woods and the field, or moving over there from the usual spot mid-day.

+1 to Langley

I think the idea of some time in the woods with CTF is fun, but we still have the open field. Again, transitional wars, with NENOs cycling locations would be fine
