I normally just spray paint my blasters but I recently tried my hand at accenting with Citadel base paints. The paint itself came out nice but my hand isn't as steady as it used to be when I was in high school. Any tips for keeping nice clean straight lines without messing up the base coat?

Keska's guide is really nice as general information and an intro to painting. It also includes the use of masking tape to create your designs and mask off areas, both which work very well. If you're looking for designs, put a base layer of masking tape down, then lightly take your printed design over it and cut the design and base layer of tape off at the same time to get your design. Just be careful to not gouge the plastic underneath too much.

Brace yourself. Rest the base of your palm on your opposite hand, and that hand on a solid surface. Tense the muscles just enough to keep it steady, and go slow. If you're really shaking, hold the brush close to the tip, and support the fingers holding the brush with those of the opposite hand. That worked great for me, even when I was anabolic-steroid-level-shaking.

I suck at painting straight lines freehand too. Brace one hand with the other, use a very small brush, and try to steady the project so you don't need your hands to hold it while you paint. Using tape to delineate straight edges is great when you can, just don't apply it over a freshly-painted surface. I'd wait at least 48 hours, more if it's cold. You just have to practice for a bit to see what works best for you.

Personally if I decide to do really precise designs on a blaster I'll make it in vinyl, but most people don't have a vinyl cutter at home!
