I am modifying a EaB, and I want the best performance- it's my favorite gun. With a spring replacement, I am now wondering what barrel to use. According to CX, I need a barrel that fits 1/2" fbr loosely. With that said, should I use 1/2" SCH 40 PVC, or 19/32" K&S Brass?

Not that loosely.

You want the smallest barrel that will allow the dart to slide through with very little resistance. For me that's either SCH 80 or 9/16" brass. Incidentally, I've switched all three of my EABs to the latter.

I'm sorry, CX. I meant to say SCH 80- like on the site. 9/16 brass gives me a rather tight fit with stefans. At some other thread, I thought I saw you mention using 19/64" brass.

Ah, here. http://nerfhaven.com...hp?showtopic=21

He said 19/32", which (assuming it's K&S brand) is measured by its OD. The wall thickness is 1/32". That means that the inner diameter, which is what matters for the barrel/dart friction, measures 18/32", or 9/16". This is the suggested width for the EaB with micros.

If 9/16" gives you a tight fit with stefans, maybe you have Steelworks brand brass? They apparently label by ID so that would be approximately just over 1/2", a good seal for spring pistols or nested brass. Move up to 19/32" if you use Steelworks, that may help you out. Good luck.

My friend used 1/2 pvc and threw a bungee on it and it gets really nice ranges.

Steelworks labels by OD, same as K&S. The difference is that Steelworks uses a 1/32" wall thickness instead of the 1/64" K&S uses. So 9/16" Steelworks is actually 1/2" ID (9/16 - 1/32 - 1/32 = 1/2) whereas 9/16" K&S is 17/32" ID.

Having Steelworks brass could very well be causing the tightness. That or simply having slightly oversized FBR.

Airsoft999: You should use either 19/32" brass or SCH80 depending on which provides the closest fit that will still allow the dart to drop through on its own.

Sorry to get off topic, but I've yet to find 1/2" FBR that fits into 19/32" K&S without me jamming it in. I've ordered from aloghomestore.com, and I've used Frost King and one other brand. From what I've heard, people's FBR slides into the 19/32 which is beyond me.

Not having brass here where I live, I've gone the SCH80 PVC route.

I did cxwq's mod, except I used a 14" length of 1/2" SCH80 PVC (riser), and a threaded 1/2" PVC coupler instead of his SM5k piece. Otherwise the barrel is mounted the same way as cx's mod.

Because this EaB was in bad shape (case cracked, catch mechanism pieces were weakened by age/ abuse), I left the stock spring in, just lubed up the plunger, and used a Sharpshooter II plunger rod to replace the broken EaB rod (fit right in). I epoxied the case as best I could and painted it.

The darts fit in slightly loosely, and pulling the plunger back draws the dart all the way back.

It shoots about 55-60 feet level, and I recently shot someone from about 100 feet, angled about 15 degrees. More importantly, though, is how consistently accurate it is compared to the other blasters we have.

Not bad for a gun that my nephew was going to throw away.

if your stefans are too tight, throw em in the dryer for about two minutes. shrinks them up a weence and straightens them to boot.
do it prior to adding the weight. the hot glue might melt in the dryer.
