Sublimedom777, Nono, you can be up front with me on what to use

Bring it, but please bring something you can reasonably expect to have no issues. For instance, back in Pgh we used NFs with Ace #49 spring replacements or equivalent.

I will be bringing a few pistols (hopefully) to lend in case someone forgets or has theirs break.

One week away! Get hyped.

I'm going to clarify the pistol rules again here because apparently it's still an issue.
  • Pistol Splats: Fine. The Magnum versions are not, nor the shotgun-style Thundersplats or whatever. Dart regulations make them basically the same as well-modified Nite Finders.
  • No homemades at all this round. It's easy to make a simple SNAP pistol or something that shoots the same as a NF; it's also easy to make an identical-in-appearance SNAP pistol that shoots as far as most primaries.
  • No homemade internals in blasters like Nite Finders, for pretty much the same reasons as above.
  • Using something like an AT2K turret on one of these blasters is fine. That isn't significantly different in spirit than one of those new Strongarms or something.
  • Vortex blasters that hold six or fewer discs are fine. Use a Proton or Fusefire or whatever.
  • If you have a question about something in particular, ask here.

"Ultra Match" basically just means high accuracy by means of a countersunk barrel. this term has been around for awhile, even if yes, I was the one who named it.

There is a rough criteria of how accurate it should be, but nothing official. It's 5 ring human target 80'@ if<150 fps, 100'@ 180 fps and 120'@ if>230 fps.

It's a stock PT and 21kg's of twin springs, a brass barrel, airtight seal, and OMW unleashed solid plunger rod, a recoiling spring assembly at the head of the PT (so the plunger head can go as fast as you want) and a steel spring plate. I also have a 12Kg firestrike and a couple of modded brass Sharpfires that are slower if this is too hot to maintain a good game balance for UCP.

In all respect, I was concerned Langley, so I asked, sorry.

"It's not my war, so I don't mean to step on any toes, but I figure I'm the authority on this gametype. I am preliminarily going to allow it, but you have to fire it upside down. I'll pass final judgement (for my authority level) when we have more info/when I see it perform."

Sublimedom777, Nono, you can be up front with me on what to use, your not stepping on my toes. Respect is why I asked, but I somehow always seem to rub people the wrong way, not on purpose.

--Cartaya

Just to clarify, the toes to which Dom was referring were those of the war hosts. He is the one running UCP, though, so I'm going to let him have dictatorial say over it.

In reference to Langley's post, the reason he asks is because a Google search of the phrase "ultra match" on NerfHaven reveals zero information about the blaster in the picture you posted (for some reason, with a toilet as the background). It's confusing to everyone when you assume that your extremely specific naming schema is well-known. From my recollection, it's basically the same as the K26 Nite Finders we made in Chicago, and we used those for pistols from time to time.

Personally, I think it's probably fine. I think the only way to unbalance this gameplay is with something like a hopper or RSCB, but since those are banned, it shouldn't be an issue. But, since Dom's word goes, you have to use it upside down, or you can choose a different blaster (he may still make you use it upside down).

Bring it, but please bring something you can reasonably expect to have no issues. For instance, back in Pgh we used NFs with Ace #49 spring replacements or equivalent.

I will be bringing a few pistols (hopefully) to lend in case someone forgets or has theirs break.

Thanks very much, Dom. That's a great gesture. Looking forward to seeing this round play out.

You're right, that is a little out of the blue just to post a pic and not describe it, but Ice9 has seen it shoot. I can put a build post up on the [BULLSHIT NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF], I don't know how welcome it would be, however I build [MORE BULLSHIT NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF]s more now.

That one was just because I got a OMW Unleashed Firestrike kit, which sadly they built too few of. One week away, Cant Hardly wait!

Tuned up all my blasters this weekend and did a trial run at the SCSNW event. Can't wait to blast you guys.

I'll also be doing photography again for all of the patty-cake rounds because nerfing isn't fun if the objective of the game isn't just lasering dudes from 100'+ away.

A'ight, the war is on Saturday. If anyone has a surprise announcement vis a vis attendance or not-attendance, now is the time to post it.

I'm going to be at the site at about 9:00. The goal is to start the first round by 10:00, and preferably by 9:45, but it's usually a little slow to get going at a war this big. I'm bringing some water bottles for people, but there are also water fountains around the campus.

I was wondering if i could borrow a blaster for my friend I`m bringing

Yes, people will have blasters to lend out. I'll probably have a couple.

Coming Friday: Mod Party Eighteen Billion!

I'm glad we'll have some dedicated photography going on. The shots you took last year were a ton of fun.

NerfHaven: Two hobbies, one bag!
Big thanks to everyone that came out and made it a fun day. Double-thanks to everyone who travelled; as usual, this list will miss a few people. Dom, Zax, Zorn, you guys are ballers. There were lots of new faces at this war, which is always a good sign. People were pretty enthusiastic and everyone I asked said they were having a good time which was the whole point. Thanks for putting up with a little bit of experimental structure. The playing cards seemed to work really well to expedite team sorting; if it happens next year, we'll just tell people to keep them through lunch rather than trying to re-sort. Also thanks for putting up with the first-try gametypes. The one-base CTF game worked shockingly well for the field setup, and with some tweaks it has a lot of potential.

I'm very excited to see the pictures and the videos that everyone took – I glanced through Zorn's shots on the camera back and there were a couple of true gems in there.
Some highlights:
  • Meeting the West Coast Sex Dwarf Garrison.
  • The Wonder Twins of Groove and Zaxbys. Wonder Twin powers were obviously activated all day.
  • Managing to convince people to play a last round of four-team carpe at the end of the day, which was one of the most fun rounds.
  • Confirmed Ultimator kills (truly, the only way to describe them).
  • Getting hits with the QEV blaster. It has a very slow leak somewhere in the system that I need to fix, but damn, that thing has spunk. Legal homemade airgun!
  • Two full-on sprints in the assault-CTF game type.
  • Big ups to Bags for making those awesome beanbag flags, they were amazing.
  • Serious ESALT action.
  • Everyone was a good sport and no one was a dick to anyone else. Incredibly important for a Nerf war.
It's hard to believe this series has been running for sixteen years, but here we are. Once again, thanks for coming out, everyone, let's do it again really soon.

Finally made it home about an hour ago. So I'll be brief to avoid falling asleep mid-post. I totally broke my personal rule to not drive overnight to a nerf war (was awake for roughly 35 hours) but it was so, so worth it.

This was one of the realest nerf wars I've ever been to. It was super strange to my east coast sensibilities, but at no point was that a problem. Both of my companions had a blast, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thanks so much to everyone running this (and thanks for the opportunity to be a captain).

  • Meeting some of the coolest nerfers I have ever had the good fortune to play with was spectacular.
  • Most of my blasters worked all day. Minimal repairs, I think.
  • Actually having some fun during a Carpe round. (And scoring 3 points total [Day and career])
  • peed rounds were crazy fun. That was the surprise of the day I think. I also loved playing D during CTF.
  • The variety of nerfers was super cool. You never quite knew who/what blaster would be around the corner.
  • The field was super awesome for this event.
  • Ultimator kills were tight.
  • I'm probably forgetting so many awesome things, but it was a super dope weekend.

My only gripes are a distaste for thrown melee (roboman and I almost caught a tomahawk to the face)

But most of all I hated not being able to give you guys a good UCP round. I'll work on figuring out how to make it scale up to a larger group.

Also, a personal milestone. I have played in 3 of the 4 major markets: NJ, Canada, and now SoCal. Wish all my blasters hadn't been buried when I drove thru Chicago, but it'll just be more incentive to see Grz sooner.

Shit was fun, yo

Pros:
Shooting that one girl in the middle finger from across the field as she flipped off Dom

First time in 7 years of active nerfing that my 2K hasn't broken at all during a war. Definitely because of the carbon fiber flames. There's clearly no other explanation.

It was great seeing all of you again for the first time in quite a while, seeing as I'm stuck in Hoth, NY most of the year and can't even make the East Coast events, much less the ones in socal.

Cons:
I'm still fucking sore. Jesus christ I haven't run that much in a loooooong time.

My only gripes are a distaste for thrown melee (roboman and I almost caught a tomahawk to the face)

I caught one to the neck. 0/10 would recommend.

Good times were had with my group!

Pros: Everything worked! So cool to see a lot of new faces and nerfers I've never met before.

Cons: Ever since my chrony broke, I've been a bit lax. Everything seemed to be shooting slower than I thought it was haha.

For next year, I'm going to actually build things in advance, instead of the week of the event, though haha.

Had a fun game.

Pro's: *Met some cool people, got to use my Xplorer Longshot, Got my Pistols shooting fast.
*Got to get hit by Brads 2k, I asked him to.
*Last 2 rounds got over 25 hits, most At or above 110' away.

Con's: *Injured the left arm right before lunch so I couldn't keep using the Longshot (nothing serious, no big).
*Was stuck shooting the Sidearm Version of my high Yield, Longshot PT'ed Star Shot. All Because a Friend of mine Sucked a dart in the Carbine Version of the same blaster but with stock, scope and longer barrel earlier.
*My Video Camera had too little battery to shoot the whole war, gonna get a GoPro Generic Next month (hopefully).

As usual, I had an amazing time at Armageddon. It was a blast to see familiar faces and meet a bunch of new people as well. Ice Nine did an exceptional job at hosting, and I feel like we all owe him a big thanks. Organizing that many people with speed and efficiency is not an easy task, there's a lot involved, and the day ran smoothly...and most importantly, everyone had fun and nobody was a dick. Baghead also brought a lot of people out; I really weep for the SoCal community if/when Bags finally hangs up his hat, and calls it quits -- dude brings so much to these wars, and we owe him quite a lot.

For the first time in almost 5 years, I had a working primary that felt on-par in terms of power level with the other blasters on the field. Huge thanks to Dennis for making that happen, and overnighting mine and Zaxbys' blaster rigs to us. I can finally attend more of these wars throughout the year and get back into the swing of things like the good ol' days. Feels good, man.

In no particular order, my highlights:

  • Meeting Sublimedom777 (one of the coolest and down-to-Earth Nerfers I've met), and seeing his beautifully assembled Crossbow.
  • Winning the final Carpe Testiculum round of the day with perhaps the biggest underdog team in my entire Nerfing career. It was like every Disney sports movie.
  • Getting a new primary the day before the war, learning to use it, then putting it through a series of grueling and hellish trials during the war.
  • The Ultimator duel - it was like watching two monster trucks in a 1v1 demolition derby, but the monster trucks can only make slow, right-hand turns. And they can only turn twice.
  • Activating the Wonder Twin powers with the help of my comrade Zaxbys, and utterly decimating a Flash Freeze Tag round before lunch.
  • The sheer variety of blasters and Nerfers present -- like someone previously said, you would turn a corner and not know what to expect.
  • Meeting BasicNerf and having him follow us around with his GoPro for one of the Flash Freeze Tag rounds -- thank you for doing that!
  • I really hate to highlight "scoring X hits" (a little lame in my book), but I must say that I hit Pants in the neck with both SF darts and I've coined it as the "Vampire Maneuver." Also Pants, I'm sorry (kind of). Please love me.

The blaster variety made it a lot of fun. Running dual Vortex Vigilons, I figured I was completely outclassed from the get go, but I think I hung in there. I hope I can make the next one, might be a fun annual road trip.
