ShortShit and I've been talking to manufacturers, and we're trying to get a feel for what you guys want most.

Thanks.

Who voted 3"? We use 1.5" darts because their was zero difference between 1.5 and 2. So to save foam we go with 1.5".

do 1.5" darts ACTUALLY work for long distances w/o fishtailing??

I thought multiple tests proved that 2.5 was superior to all...

I make my darts 2" long, so that's what I voted.

How could 1.5" fishtail if it doesnt have enough body to fishtail? They work fine for us, but probably not for your particular foam and barrel.

How could 1.5" fishtail if it doesnt have enough body to fishtail?

Less body implies lower force acting to keep it pointing in the proper direction.

Basically, all darts come out of high power guns fishtailing at least a bit - the short darts take longer to straighten out. All that wobbling around increases aerodynamic resistance and hurts your range. At some point, this is countered by the fact that as the dart gets longer the center of gravity moves away from the tip and the dart gets heavier overall. In my brass 1500 with 3/0 weighted darts, I got roughly the same range with 2.5" and 3" darts, and the range dropped if I went below 2.5" or above 3". For comparison, my PC is happy with 1.5" darts and my LnL seems to like 2" darts. It's a function of the weight you're using, whether you drill the FBR, and the power and barrel length of the guns you typically use.

My current dart is a 1/4" steel shot weighted 2.5" micro stefan. Though it's a bit too light and short to be optimal on a 5k and a bit too heavy and long to be optimal on a pistol, it's a nice average that works pretty well in everything I own.

I say 2.5 because its the longest somewhone would want a dart to be and if you want it shorter you can just trim it with an exacto knife. I'm so glad you guys actually considered my idea of precut foam! (yes it was my idea)

I make all my darts 3" so I would rather have that.

When you die, if you get a choice between going to regular heaven or pie heaven, choose pie heaven. It might be a trick, but if it's not, mmmmmmm, boy

I think that Cheesenerfer is definately right. 3 inches just seem a little too long. I use 2 inch, but I would be just fine with 2.5 inch partly because I might use that for my super soaker.

If it's going to be precut, 2.5" is good 'cause I make my darts 2", and that leaves 1/2" of FBR to make shotgun type ammo ;)

Cx, are you sure the longer darts spin out less? My first darts were 3" and well straightened, but they spun like maple seeds. But when I cut them down to 1 1/4", they flew great.

Thats just a waste of money to cut thme down. I'll go with 1.5 or 3, so I can cut them in half to make 1.5. Precut foam is a bad idea since everyone likes to make theirs different sizes. Sell it by the foot, if you sell it by dart size, you cant please everyone, but by the foot, at least they can do waht they want with it.

True, but, have you ever heard the saying;

You cannot please everyone, but when you hold the world by the throat, it matters less.

Well, the pre cut is probably not going to happen with the red, so you won't have to worry about it. We're probably going to be selling it in sets of 25 feet, so you can easily order 25 feet, 100 feet, etc
