I own a modified Longstrike and a mostly stock Stryfe [only mod was lock-removal] and the stryfe out-preforms the Longstrike by far. Its kind of a bummer to me because I love the Longstrike's asthetics, but wish I could get the semi-auto firing speed and elite ranges of the Stryfe.
So I came up with an idea and figured I would post this piece of "concept art" and see what you all think:

The idea is to take an empty Longstrike shell, take the internals from a Stryfe and modify the inside of the longstrike shell to accept them [the Stryfe's "dart-pusher" would also have to be extended somehow].

I did some extensive google searching and was not able to find an account of anyone doing an integration like this, so I thought I would post the question here as to wether anyone on NH has done something like unto this and if it would be a good idea. I'm going to probably make the attempt anyway, but I would appreciate any advice or ideas to incorporate and I will produce a write-up when it is done.

[*]DO NOT Post a concept thread. If you have a great idea, try it out yourself first and let us know how it goes. Unless you have something concrete to show us, keep it to yourself. (active build logs, work-in-progress threads etc all fall under this category)

We encourage members to try out an idea before posting on the forums. Photoshopped concept art and simple/vague diagrams aren't enough content to warrant a new thread. If you get stuck and have specific questions about your project, we would be happy to re-open the thread, and of course we're looking forward to seeing a writeup when the project is complete.

Gut the electronics, drill a hole in the shell, and attach a crank to the gear. Bam, crank-action stampede that doesn't require batteries, or even a trigger.

...(also judging by your past posts, I would consider you pretty dang wise elder like in the modding community  )

I do recall a while ago of Jerm putting the fly wheels and push mechanism of a barricade into a longstrike shell, and used the clip accepting part of the longstrike. I have also seen people put Stryfe's into Centurions. I know those aren't the blaster combonations you have in mind, but the concept is the same.

Yeah, the only good part about the longstrike is the shell, everything else is pretty shit. This looks like a pretty cool concept and I look forward to the writeup.

Thanks for telling me about Jerms mod! I was able to find a write-up for it (in case anyone else is interested) here: http://www.nerfmodsr...strike-mod.html his pictures are missing, but there's a short video showing the blaster in action. I was also able to find an internals review by Drac after he bought the blaster from Jerm and it was very imformative as to what I want/don't want to do. I just wanted to give you some credit because I wouldn't have found any of that otherwise :)

It would probably be awesome! A Rapidstrike is about twice as expensive as a Stryfe though, and seeing as this mod is more experimental in nature, I'll be lucky if it works at all with a $20 Stryfe. If it does work I might consider selling it and starting over with Rapidstrike internals.

Looks like quite an ambitious project. Your concept art looks great, I can't wait to see the finished project!

I agree with lunas. It might be easier and better with a rapidstrike.
