i have recently acquired a LS from a friend who found it outside in cased in mud and i had to completely tare it apart and replace nearly every spring... but i digress....

once i had everything in proper operating order i went to home depot and bought a 7/8"x 4"x .080" spring with a working load limit of 44.7 lbs and coupled that with the stock spring.

before the spring addition the LS was fairly quiet but now it sounds horrendous and like its going to break with every shoot.....

so i am wondering without taking out the spring i put in is there any way i could make the gun fire quieter?

It's a side effect of adding upgrade/backup springs. There's really nothing you can do other than make sure that plunger head is padded with some craft foam or a thin felt pad and hope for the best. Some guys try to "silence" their blasters by jamming FBR or spray foam in the crevices of the shell but I don't believe it helps much, if at all. Barrel silencers are absolutely pointless. (Except for maybe on an air gun?)

My brother (BladeMaster on here) has a LS that he threw a backup spring into and it's crazy loud but shoots fairly well. His only problem is that the spring is shorter than the plunger rod so it tends to rattle around on him. That's not your problem though.

I think that the padding of the plunger head may help, and it would also prolong the life of the plunger and plunger head.

actually the sprinng is a little short on the plunger rod and rattles around but that doesnt bother me its the defining slam of the piston head when fired im concerned about. i will try to pad it ty for the advice

To reiterate and expand upon what SolarFusion said - craft foam or thin felt. But more importantly, just a single layer of either. Why just a single layer? Padding decreases the distance the plunger can travel which in turn decreases the amount of distance between the catch and the catch plate. If you put too much padding on the plunger, Your blaster will be unable to catch and you'll be tearing it apart immediately thereafter. I would suggest dry-fitting everything together without the main springs to make sure your padded LS can still catch before putting your springs back in.

The same theroy goes with most all n-strike-esque clipped springers. Someone once double loaded an AR & lock removed raider. The second dart pushed the first dart into the PT. I was baffled as to why it suddenly stopped priming... until i took it apart.

Why would you want to make it quieter anyway? Just some craft foam on the plunger head (cut to size) and it won't have the plastic on plastic noise if you accidentally dry-fire. Unless it's maniacally loud that your hurting yourself you don't really need your blaster to be very quiet, but that's my 2 cents.

What he's worried about is that the loud crack upon firing is actually wearing out some parts of his blaster prematurely. I remember feeling the same after I modded my first blaster (a Recon). It just seemed that even padded the gun was destroying itself with every shot. However as that blaster is still going strong with thousands of rounds cycled through it there was obviously no problem. Adding the craft foam actually won't make it that much quieter anyways, it's just to prevent premature breakage of the plunger tube.

I feel that a 44lb load spring is way to much for a longshot to handle, it will probably end up harming your bolt sled.

That's not the point of an LS, and yea craft foam because you want to preserve your plunger head.
