Just a quick question, after you mod a gun by replacing the barrels with PVC in order to shoot micro darts, will it only shoot stefans or can it also shoot stock micros? (the red ones w/ the black tip)

sorry if this question seems noobish.....

PVC does not fit micro stefans. PVC will fit stock micros, and mega stefans.

so if I mod my supermaxx 1500 and put four 1/2" PVC barrels on, they will shoot stock micros fine?

I don't know why you'd want to shoot stock micros. The most common sm1500 mod is to use 4 6" (cx recommended 7") 1/2" sch40 pvc barrels, with 9/16" brass inside. This is effective for micro stefans, and the range and accuracy is greatly improved. I'm pretty sure this site has the mod write-up for it. Look under the Mods link.

The older version 1500 is pretty much the same gun inside a new shell. If you use pvc with no brass inside, you can also use those green darts w/ pink tips.(supermaxx darts)

Thats the one that I have. The mod is exactly the same. Those green ones are very cool, not to mention semi-rare-ish mega darts. But micro stefans are better. for range. It's really up to you. Nobody's forcing you to do it.

stock micro darts in 1/2 pvc shoot very well actually, if he wants to do that its fine, theres no NEED to brass it to use micro stefans if he doesnt have micro stefans, and you can easily put brass into 1/2 pvc anytime you please.

Yes, anything that uses 1/2" PVC ( not cpvc ) it will fire stock micros. Though unless your seal is good, stock micros might not work best for you. You also need to be VERY carefull not to loose any. I used stock micros and 1/2" PVC on my x-bow for a very long time ( extra weighted and trimmed down, 130' flat ) and have just recently switched to brass and stefans. Trust me, its worth it.

how come brass and stefans is THAT much better than pvc and stock micros? But can't I also easily just switch to brass after pvc anyway?

My best reasons for using brass:

1. It allows for homemade micro stefans, which are more aerodynamic than red stock nerf darts.
2. The barrel has a smaller diameter, meaning the air has more velocity on the dart.
3. Micro stefans have a better seal in brass than stock darts in PVC.
4. Micro stefans have less friction in brass than the rubber tips on stock darts have in PVC.

You missed the main reason i switched to brass and stefans though vintage. While I was getting much better range and accuracey with PVC+stock micros ( keep in mind this, WONT work for everyone, i was lucky and had a good dart to barrel seal ), I was always having to worry about finding my darts quikly before the next round and being really pissed off if I lost any. I got tired of all that, plus my darts were starting to get really beat up. So I switched to stefans so i didnt have to care about loosing or finding them all.

Just make stefans dude.

by the way, do stefans require holes to be drilled in the back? or is it such a minute difference that it can live without it?

You can live without it. I don't have holes drilled in mine... But if anyone here has drilled and un-drilled and there is an improvement in accuracy.. Damn I'd start drilling.

Well... I think mine fly further when they're drilled... Not sure about the accuracy, though. In fact, if you don't get the hole centered, it'll hurt the accuracy a bit.

Actually, the drilling may affect the dart because it's less/more weight. If you drill the hole, it takes away a minuscule amount of weight away from the dart. That amount may make a difference, I don't know. I'm just guessing.

also, a couple quick questions.
1. where do you get brass tubing? hardware stores? hobby shops?
2. how do you plug the air pressure release valve holes? just w/ a hot glue gun?
3. after you plug the valve, is the trigger mod absolutely neccessary?
4. so 1/2" FBR micro stefans should fit nicely into 9/16" of brass tubing, which also should fit nicely into 1/2" PVC. but how can the brass fit if its bigger than the PVC?
5. whats the difference between PVC and CPVC and is any one better?

thanks...

I have found that it is best to have a hole in the stefan. The best dart has a heavy tip, with a very light tail. I'll explain the aerodynamics here:

The weight makes the dart fly. The tail makes it fly straight.
The heavier the weight, the less it is affected by wind, but gives shorter range.
Lighter weights give more range at less accuracy.
The heavier the tail, the better chance of fishtailing.
The lighter the tail...the better flight pattern.

Moral: Put the right sized weight on a drilled stefan, and you get best performance.

Ninjz, you probably got better range with stock darts because your stefans are not drilled, and they might be a tad heavy. Stock micros have an excellent weight combined with a very light, hollow tail. Drilled stefans work just as well.

1. Choice B
2. I use hot glue
3. I think it would help because all of my 1500 triggers broke
4.Yes and don't worry about it, it will work you will just need some e-tape to make it a snug fit.
5. 1/2inch PVC fits mega steffans and CPVC fits minis.
