im looking at gutting an airsoft H&K G36 and nerfing it, but i like the box magazine, so i want to keep that part. has anyone played with a spring-fed nerf box magazine, and if so how did you go about it and what problems did you run into?
(the next question is going to be tougher. im going to ask for ideas on a semi-automatic firing mechanism to complement the magazine)

Why don't you come right out and ask us to build the gun for you?
For the mag, the most reliable method for a spring loader would be using shells. They could be made out of brass, which can slide in 1/2 in PVC, or you could try BoltSniper's design for the breech.
For semi-auto, you have three choices in my book. CO2, dual valves, or a regulator. Otherwise, you could try to be the first person to make a springer, bolt-action, clip-fed rifle.
But you want to work this into a G36? That would be very hard. Airsoft guns don't produce enough air output to launch a nerf dart. They produce plenty of air for a plastic bb, but a weighted foam dart would not go anywhere. To use it as a nerf gun, you would need new internals (larger piston, cocking/pumping mech). I wouldn't try it unless your gun is already broken.

You can get much further with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone

The harder part would be to figure out how to eject the shells after use.

gut, vintage. gut.
i just want ideas, man, theres no reason for me to waste time, money, and effort making a bunch of worthless prototypes if someone has already done the prototyping. and the valve/action question...that shit is hard. there are about fifteen variables to take into account for a firearm style sliding breech alone, not even taking into account other design possibilities.
shells? i dont want to be spitting brass everywhere! expensive, heavy, and overly complex. something like this has to be dirt simple or it will be massively unreliable.
and my gun is not broken, but it is cheap and i have no interest in airsoft.
im gonna start a new thread on the breech and action where ill post my musings and ideas so far.
