I produced these replacement gears for the Stampede ECS after I was annoyed at both the frequency of failure, and the scarcity/cost of replacement parts.
The current batch uses a 70D urethane resin. Other materials used in the first productions failed when run with a 16 volt power supply, stock springs, and stock Stampede motor between estimated 1,000 cycles (shots) and 15,000 cycles. I have attempted to run the pictured gears to failure, they have not failed as of yet, and I would estimate over 15,000 cycles at this point. It may yield eventual failure, but at this moment it is starting to become what I would consider reliable.
I need your help.
I would like to create the perfect gears to use when modding the internals of your Stampede. Internals that are stronger, and cheaper than the stock models.
To do that we need to torture my creations.
If you are in the Orlando Florida area I would be happy to offer some free prototype gears if you wish to be a guinea-pig. If you wish me to continue my refinement of these, I may consider commissions, or donations. Demand for service will decide how I continue. I am not entertaining any offers for sale at the moment, as they may have unforeseen issues that I would not allow to sully my namesake. I have run out of project funds to try other materials currently. However, if you would like, I will offer the aforementioned "guinea-pigs" the opportunity to make donations toward other materials I would also like to try. They have better specs than ABS as far as Tensile strength, and Tensile Modulus of Elasticity on the ASTM D638 tests. Currently, I would only need 120 dollars total to try out two better plastics I had in mind. I mention this not because I need donations, but because it will expedite the process. If left to my own devises I will produce the funds, just not quickly.
If this is relevant to your interest, and you would like to arrange some method to pick up some gears to test out, feel free to contact me.
If you have any other parts you would like me to look into, I may also consider it.
I am not a huge Nerf fan (as in I do not participate in "wars"), I simply was annoyed that my 5 dollar thrift store find did not function. I liked tinkering with it, and I wanted to share my solutions.
If you are curious about where I obtained my skill set to do this; I have 8+ years experience working in special effects.
