So I think Vinyl dye is the greatest thing ever for repainting transformers, nerf, or just about anything plastic. Its durable and comes in a wide variety of colors, perfect to changing the color of a large part.
But now I have a real hum dingier of a question for you guys. What will happen if I use it on a translucent plastic piece? Does it cause it to become brittle? Is the color solid or semi transparent? Does the dye soak into clear plastic at all?
I am hoping you guys can help. Not very many people on the Transformer side of things uses vinyl dye for customs. XD
A bonus question: VHT Satin Silver, is it actually metalic colored, or is it just a shade of grey that is considered to look silver?

My understanding is that it becomes semi-transparent, and that it shouldn't affect the brittleness of the plastic.

Coop772 should know alot about Vinyl Dye, because that's pretty much all he uses. So I'd suggest contacting him about that question.

From personal experience, I can tell you that it will coat the plastic in the same manner as opaque plastic, and it soaks in to the same extent. For example, the translucent orange jam door on a rapidstrike, when coated with Duplicolor flat black vinyl dye, will turn the same opaque black color as the other Rapidstrike components when coated. It doesn't discriminate based on color (or lack thereof).
Used to commission Nerf guns I guess.

TheWiredDJ is right, it goes on clear plastics the same as opaque plastics but is similar to painting yellow plastics (the yellow N-Strike line for example) it requires painting on both sides for best outcome as light can seep through and make it look shitty, but it is all in all pretty pointless to paint clear plastics in the first place unless you are trying to tint it or partially obstruct view.
I would much perfer a game that's free of KY. I like it rough. Right, Vacc?

If your trying to go for a tint, use a Candy paint. If your not to knowledgeble on mixing candy basecoats and clears and such, Duplicolor offers products called METALCAST, in red, orange, green/turqouise (I believe), Purple and yellow. VHT, a sister company with Duplicolor, offers a product called nightshade, intended for tinting tailights, so that gives you a clear black tinted finish. If you sand the plastic first you WILL see the scratches through paint, just pick up a can of adhesion promoter for plastic. Duplicolor, and bulldog make a good product.
