Super Lube at Harbor Freight. This is good for nerf mods; plungers and stuff.
White Lithium Grease from Home Depot. This is good for home-mades, it's also good for lubing triggers in flywheel blasters and the like, it's a little thicker in consistency than the silicon grease.
EDIT: Whatever you do, don't use vaseline.

First off, why are your parts "rusting?" They're mostly plastic.

Secondly, lubing won't do much if anything to stop rusting, if that is what's happening. Perhaps you meant "crusty?" Either way, you can get white lithium grease for cheap at any hardware store. Don't get a spray. You can get silicone grease less cheaply at hardware stores, but I'm told that it's superior to WLG. Also, don't get a spray form of that.

Sprays have some nasty stuff in their formulations, and they'll fuck with your o-rings.

That Super Lube looks really good. Might get some soon.

I use this lube for anything that doesn't need to move quickly but needs a really tight air tight seal.

Listen to this.

Silicon grease is used in plunger tubes and air pumps to help with the seal, it is not used to actually lubricate the plunger/pump to make the action faster/smoother.

White Lithium is used to lubricate moving parts. Triggers, turret rotation mechs, basically every moving mechanical part. Be careful with WLG, it will dissolve most paintjobs. Apply it internally and wipe up any excess to avoid horrid paintjob streaks.

In my experiences, Silicone grease has had a much higher viscosity; aka it is much thicker. Me and Mully must just be using different brands.

That may be true in however you are personally using silicone grease, but that is not universally the case. In fact, the absolute best grease that I have found is Silglide, marketed for use with automotive brake components. I use it on every blaster I build/repair/modify because it has long-term tested the best of anything. I don't like lithium grease because I see it dry out and become sticky over time.

Just as there are different weights of petroleum engine oils, there are different weights of silicone oils, from water thin up to thick and sticky greases. You are just choosing stuff that is too thick, so it doesn't do what you want.

Well, it does exactly what I want doesn't it? The thicker Silicone grease is perfect for plunger tube sealant because it is thick. Thin, slick grease would not work for my purposes.

You are correct in both counts, but they somehow contradicted themselves.

Bottom line, this thread is a plethora of information about types of lube for nerfing use. I'm sure many nerfers will stumble upon this and, hopefully, our differing opinions will guide them to adequate lubrication of their little plastic pieces.

I guess I misunderstood your emphasis.
