I play lacrosse, and a fun thing that us lacrosse players do is dye our head. Head meaning the top of the lacrosse stick. We use various techniques, but our favorites are using masking tape and using hot glue. I've applied these methods to spray painting Nerf guns.

Hot glue:

1. Apply hot glue in squiggly lines in the area that you want spray painted. Just do it randomly.
2. Apply spray paint. Try not to let it bunch up around the glue.
3. Carefully peel off dried glue.
4. Spray light coating of the same color paint on.

The result?

Note the squiggly lines.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Masking tape:

1. With masking tape, cut out shapes or letters in the design you want.
2. Stick them firmly on your gun. If they're letters, put them in order. If they're random shapes, put them anywhere on your gun.
3. Apply spray paint and wait to dry.
4. Peel off shapes/letters.

The result?

Note the triangles.

Nice ideas, but use a primer so that your gun doesn't have a glossy and dull look at the same time which is bad.

I know that. Primer is the best thing in the world. I didn't want to use it this time, since this was just an experiment. I just wanted to get it sprayed and posted as quickly as possible.

Sorry to go off-topic, but LDM, what position do you play, and what heads do you have?
I play face-off middie, and Im really awsome at the face, I clamp it every time, and occasionally I play fogo(face off get off). Ive got an Intrepid, a Hype, and Edge, a Quark, and a dyed Superlight 2000. The sl2k was died all yellow, then I masked part of the protruding sidewall, and died it green, looks nice, although in its old age the green looks brown  I use RIT dye by the way, its pretty much the best. Are you sure the dye wroks well on the materials nerf uses? Thats my only gripe.

I play face off midfield, too! I never clamp it. I rake it out immediately, it always works. I have a Cyber on an F15.

And I'm not talking about dye. Note: spraypaint. Not RIT dye. Though it does work really well for lacrosse.

Oh, I know, Im just suggesting it as another idea, since this thread seems all about that. If you immediatly rake it out, do you mean you clamo it, then rake, or you immediatly laser it?

Reply to stupid ass  :Dean, I was with you, we dyed it together. If you can just take the liberty of taking my quark and bring it places without telling or asking me, Im gonna say that I have an edge. Kapish? ::cracks knuckles::

I imagine RIT dye wouldn't work for Nerf.

I rake it hard, so it rolls about a foot, and scoop it.

Yah, thats what I was thinking, sicne most of nerf's shells are textured, and the plastic doesnt seem to like RIT dye...

LDM, how old are you, and who do you play for? School team?

OOOOoo, I saw this commercial thingy for some new spray paint that is SUPPOSED to bond to plastic. Its called Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastic.

Has anyone tried it yet?

Does it really bond better?

Fusion spraypaint is okay, it's a great idea but doesn't actually bond very well.

Krylon Fusion for plastics. It chemically bonds with plastic. If you've had problems in the past with it, maybe it's because you're not washing your plastic parts with water and detergent first. I use it on all my resin props as a primer, since it sticks to plastic better than primer does.

most plastics come from the factory with oils and chemicals on them. Mostly release agents used to pop them out of the molds. You need to wash the plastic parts off so they're clean and the paint can stick to the plastic, not the oils and chemicals on them.

The paint schemes on your guns look great! What the hell is the last one? It looks like a pretty decent Ivory gun from Devil May Cry. Poseidon make a sweet kit of the Ebony and Ivory guns...

Hahah, it wasn't a guess. I make cosplay props/replicas for a living. Those are on my list. :P Your friend did an awesome job of making a nerf gun look like Ebony. I seriously thought it was parts of the Poseidon kit, a bunch of clay, and some other gun.

Here's Poseidon's pair.

Hopefully this week, I will be putting Tech Target guts into a FFX-2 Yuna Tiny Bee gun shell :P If I have enough resin left over. After that, it's Witch Hunter Robin, Phantasy Star Online, Namco Guncon and Sega Biogun shells on nerf guts!

My masking tape method has been applied!

I entered it in the NHQ contest, but I know it's not going to win. I just did it for the hell of it.

The Krylon Fusion paint worked really well.

I am aware that it is a white gun. I'm crazy.

?????

No. I said I MAKE props...

http://images.cospla...&cat=500&page=1

I made those entirely from scratch, made molds, and cast them in resin.

I thought I had my website posted somewhere... hmmm... guess I'll have to put it in my sig.

LDM! I LOVE THE WHITE GUN!!! I use white krylon for primer and I sprayed my TT down and was sooooo tempted to just keep it white and add highlights. It really looks good in white! The NF too!
