I have been looking into making team bandannas for the site, and for Apoc. The proceeds from online orders would help pay for the website, and would help cover hosting fees, contest prizes, and software licenses and it would free us up to spend a little more money on some cool features for the site. The bandannas sold at Apoc would help cover expenses for that event. I would probably do this instead of the wristbands, due to lack of interest and too much risk (I don't have to do a huge one time order of the same style bandanna and risk getting stuck with too many of them)



These are the only colors/styles I will be offering at the moment, but others may be available in the future.

You should make red bandannas, those would look cool. I'm most likely buying one as soon as they come out.

Im going with orange because it matches the flagging tape we will have at apoc, and I don't want people sweating red dye all over themselves at the war. Red is unlikely but other colors may become available if this works out.

That makes sense. Orange still looks good anyway and I am interested to see any possible new colors.

I guess the more modern version of that last one would read "USER WAS SUSPENDED FOR THIS BANDANNA"

Edit: If there's a demand for it, there's no reason why I can't just make bandannas that just say NerfHaven.com. I could even make a limited run of Nerf On or Fuck Off bandannas and then just mask over that part of the silk screen.

That sounds completely reasonable. I would say this might be the best compromise so far.

What happened to the wristbands?

As neat as these bandanna's are, i have no interest in buying any of them. It seems were jumping from product to product with too much haste, lets slow down and take it one step at a time. If the site is in need of this much funding, what i can only assume from a full NH apparel line launch, wouldn't a few porn adverts be much easier?

I'm just selling some bandannas dude. I've wanted to get a bulk order of team-color bandannas since before I became an Admin, and I thought it would be a good way to raise some money to help pay for the cost of running the site. When CX was an Admin, he had a cafepress store and some referral links set up, just to try and break even. Selling some NH branded gear is not a new idea.

No. It would be nice for the site to be self sustaining, but I can afford to keep it running for now. I've considered setting up ads for users who aren't logged in, but I would rather offer something of value to our members, and the site was pretty anti-ad when it started, so I'd like to remain true to that. I'm going to ignore the porn thing.

What happened to the wristbands?

There wasn't enough interest in any single design, and they're not worth the risk. I can only get bulk pricing for large amounts of the same design, and I don't want to be hanging on to 50-60 wristbands begging people to take them off my hands. The bandannas are more useful, I can easily make small runs of different designs, I can sell the blank bandannas quickly at cost if I have to, and they aren't a played-out fad tied to a celebrity that got caught juicing (Armstrong, not Groove.)

It fell off last night while I was trying it on so...ask your mom? Might want to wash it first.

I may still end up doing it as a kickstarter. Or a faux kickstarter where the costs are much less but where you just have to trust me because there's no 3rd party to act as a middle man. The goal would be "Everybody who contributes gets wristbands and Langley gets a beer for his trouble" (20-30 contribs) with a reach goal of "Everybody gets wristbands and NerfHaven's hosting is paid for the foreseeable future. Also fabulous prizes." (100+ contribs).

On a related note, you should remove the year from the Apoc bandanna's.

Yes, it's cool if you go to Apocalypse and get a bandanna with the year on it, but after that game is over all your stock is outdated. You mentioned not wanting to be stuck with loads of useless merchandise, having the item only valid for one year seems like a good way to do just that. If you order the bandanna's without 2013, people will still buy them at Apoc. Those that do not sell can be kept in storage for Apoc 2014, when you can sell them again!

Just seems like good business sense.

gaudy, flashy, showy, garish
dowdy, shabbily dressed
shabby, dowdy (in one's appearance)

Which all sounds like a pretty good description of good, old fashioned nerf gun modification, featuring brightly colored plastic toys held together with nothing but etape, hot glue, and a prayer (Edit: and possibly a dildo).

Also kinda sounds like sex, which is good, too.

In short, put me down for two with the tacky four letter word on them. I'll get them at APOC.

Note: Understand that these are hand made. The quality of the ink is much better than what you see on Zazzle and Cafepress. It is brighter and should last through wash and wear for a longer period. However, because they are made by hand by an amateur, some bandannas may have slight imperfections, such as minor smudges and variations in texture. I have inspected them and removed any that I would not wear myself. The bandannas pictured are typical of what is available.
