WANO I (Washington Area Nerf Out) - Pilot

Woodland Park, Seattle, WA
Sunday, August 4th 2013
10:00am - 5:00pm

Directions:

The park is large, so aim for the lot next to the Lawn Bowling area in the NW corner of the park (it's right off of highway 99). This is generally the least used area. If anyone is unsure I can provide my cell number to help you find our staging area. Google maps is your friend.

Primer:

This to be the first of a series and I want it to be big so get the word out to anyone you know and I will do the same. First timers are welcome, so if you have a lot of blasters do us a solid and bring some higher powered loaners. After my visit to SoCal I think Washington is in need of a solid, regular NIC-based war series. Stock guns are totally fine but would ideally be phased out eventually.

Bring:

- Good attitude. We are participating in a somewhat whimsical sport. Relax and enjoy. Sharing your stuff is certainly not required but is much appreciated.

- Lots of blasters! All you got! Modded or homemade preferred, stock acceptable. Loaners if possible, I am hoping to get some new players who will likely come with stock weapons and I'd like them to try something a little more interesting.

- Darts! Stefans preferred (slugs, domes, whatever is safe). We will have a stockpile of stock and homemade but would love to borrow yours for the day. If you want your darts returned to you, label them accordingly. If you have a question about darts, pm me.

- Water and lots of it. Food if you like, we will break for lunch and there is food in the general vicinity.

Don't Bring:

- 'Tude. Be prepared to follow the rules, not exploit them. Gametypes will be as simple and intuitive as possible.

- Melee weapons. There are other avenues for that sort of thing. This series is not one of them.

- Anything dangerous. Blasters that hurt are perfectly within expectations but don't bring anything that can do more damage than a welt and eternal shame. This includes weird darts and overpowered blasters. The field should not necessitate crazy ranges (150+).

General Rules:

1. Don't be a bitch.

2. Eyewear required by all players at all times. We have limited extras, please bring your own. If you are not wearing eye protection you are not in the game and will be ignored.

3. Any part of your body or gun counts as a hit. No shields. No blocking. No exceptions.

4. Hits are based on the honors system. Shooter has the right to call a hit, so if you are unsure just take it like a man. You will be back in the game soon enough. Shooters, call your hits because they are sometimes not felt. If you have to argue, you are both out.

5. Barrel taps are permitted if your gun is loaded and ready to fire. Please do not smack anyone with your gun. Give them a friendly pat on the back or just say "barrel tap." If there is anything weird about how your barrel tap is accomplished it probably doesn't count. There should be no question that you would have been able to hit them but you are sparing them some pain. If you aren't sure, just shoot them. They'll live.

6. Most darts are fine, if there is some problem with yours we will deal with that at the war. Bring 'em if you got 'em. Just not anything crazy or dangerous. If you want yours back at the end of the war, mark them. Don't know how to make them? Slugs are effective, cheap and easy to make. This link is your friend. http://nerfhaven.com...showtopic=21347

7. Players must be at least 14 years of age. If your parent or guardian is driving you, they will need to stay so we know you have a ride home.

8. This is not a democracy, but it is also not a dictatorship and I am open to suggestions about gametypes/rules. The goal is effective use of time, so if you have a good idea that is simple and quickly executed I am open to that. I am also very happy to accept feedback afterwards that will factor into future games.

9. Do not bring blasters that look like real guns. Bright colors are great. If your blaster looks scary we will ask you to put it away. Or we will put a silly bow on it. Most likely the former.

10. No blasters that shoot over 140 feet or so. You will only need so much range. I reserve the right to ban terrifying weaponry on the spot for any reason if necessary. Modded blasters will hurt, but there is a point at which it gets to be a bit much.

11. If someone calls a stop for any reason, stop. We stop for pedestrians or other unexpected eventualities that warrant stopping. This will happen in the area we are using so if anyone calls a stop just chill for a bit.

12. No melee weapons. Period.

13. Time is of the essence so try not to waste it. If we are picking up darts, help out. If we are gearing up to start a game, get your shit together and get in line. I will do my best to not be long-winded in explanations of games/rules and I ask that you be ready to listen when asked.

14. Don't be a bitch. Be nice. Play with honor. Don't try to cheat the rules or do anything untoward -- remember that this is a game! Gametypes are designed for maximum participation and minimum consequence so it is just not worth it. We will likely play a couple rounds where some sitting out will be required but this will not be the norm. If you are disruptive or unpleasant you will be asked to leave. Please don't make this necessary.

Gametypes:

Team Deathmatch (3:15)

CTF (Unlimited Spawn)

Witch Doctor

FFA Pistols (Continuous)

King of the Hill (Stopwatch)

Thanks to Gunther, Dayko and FlamingHilt for rule/gametype inspiration!

Please reply so I can get an idea of attendance. Again, tell your friends! This first one might be a bit wonky but I am hoping to garner some local interest.

I can be there if I can get a carpool from the Crossroads area of the Eastside. *Cough*DarthFreyr*cough*.

Sadly, I'm out of modding (but not Nerfing, just modding) so I don't have anything new to show.

I'll be travelling with a bunch of 4BullPups.

Nice. I'll be there. I'll reach out to some of the regulars in the area and see if anyone missed this post.

I hope to premier a new style of homemade here. I finally have some more incentive to finish it up.

At this point, I think it's safe to say I'm a definite for this war, at least as far as one can ever be. I'm driving over from the Eastside, and I think I can spare a couple seats. I should have several blasters available as loaners, if anyone needs them. If you or your guest are looking to borrow one, it would be helpful if you can send me an email to let me know. It's by no means necessary, but I just want to keep track on how things are looking beforehand.

Lizard Messiah, if there's anything I can do to help with organization and/or supplies, just let me know.

On another note, I've been wondering if there's much interest in doing a Washington wye group-buy. If that's something that would interest you, or if I've missed something like that going on, send me an email.

Well, After quite some time lurking, this post inspired me to register, merely so I can let you know I will attend. I've managed to rope in at least four other people as well. This will be our first NIC-based event, and it will be rather fun to see how our very "soft" mods perform next to some of you nutbars. I used to live in Ballard, am familiar with the area, and would be more than willing to be one of the come early/stay late types to help organize, clean up, etc. if needed. Feel free to PM me (if my extreme FNG status will allow you to, I dunno how exactly that works) if you'd like and we can co-ordinate.

To paraphrase-

That is great to hear ooont! Can't wait to meet you and your contingent.

Thank you all for the generous offers of organizational assistance. I'm doing pretty good, a couple of friends have already volunteered their services. All I will need from the rest of you is arms, darts and enthusiasm!

Also, make sure whoever you are bringing is familiar with the rules above, they are firm and it will make things much easier if everyone has an idea of what to expect. I will explain them again of course, but I don't want anyone showing up unprepared or unwilling to comply.

I think this is gonna be a good one, boys. Enlist as many of your friends as you can! We should have ample weaponry.

Well, I'm in dart making and tune up mode now.
Picking through my blasters I have a few high profile items I'm looking to sell. Mad Hornet, Manta shell with broken plunger rods, AT4K, powerclip, and a crossbow with homemade internals if anyone is interested. Send me a PM if anyone is interested in a at-the-war purchase.

So we are a week out now and I hope you all are ready to go! Remember to look over the rules, bring plenty of weaponry/darts and invite your friends. I will be there early to start setting things up and hopefully we'll be able to start right around 10.

All you "maybes" ought to confirm. Do it.

See you there.

I have group of at least 4 and possibly as many as 8 who would love to attend. We'd most likely be there a couple of hours after the start, if that's alright, but myself and probably a couple others of my group could stay late for cleanup. We can supply our own arsenal. We only have lightly modded guns and stock elite ammo, so I'm curious how we'll measure up.

Succinctly:

Excellent! Make sure your group has taken a gander at the rules. As discussed above, we have lots of extras and are happy to lend out more highly modified weaponry if you are interested. Looking forward to meeting y'all.

Are painted blasters allowed as long as they have the orange tip? I wish I'd known about this earlier but I'll get the word out to people.

@Taer: Dear god in heaven. Spare us. But that sounds awesome please bring it.

Chopin, please make every effort to make sure your blaster looks whimsical. Orange tips are great but colorful guns are better. If your blaster is scary make sure your (and your friends!) dress is hilarious. I am thinking neon.

Already painted my blaster for Zombie!5 two weeks ago so I don't really feel like painting it again; you're saying that to compensate for this, I need to wear a neon dress? Be careful what you wish for. . .

Dayko and his brother (Thraxx, I think) are going to make it, but he's having password problems getting into NH so he asked me to post this for him.

Seeing as I'm posting anyhow, here's the completed beast:

Posted Image

One of the barrels is torqued because it's resting against it. Normally it shoots straight.

Gets ~50' with 1' spread when I pump it to 20 psi, but my arms are weak. If you can man-handle a 2-11, you can probably get it higher.

I can max it out putting it on the ground and pumping with both hands to 60 psi. Then it gets ~100' with a 2' spread.

===

iModify, DarthFreyr and I were on #nerfChat earlier talking about loaners. Darth has some, and I'll be bringing a few 4Bullpups. As for darts, Dayko brought a community bin to his wars last year, so we're probably going to be set. He'll also be bringing some tetrahedral mobstacles.

===

@Chopin - I can pick up either "Hello Kitty" or "Skulls with Pink Bows" duct tape to slap on your blasters if you want. :)

@Tantum: Yes.

@Fred: I just want to make sure no one looks like a murderer. If you want to wear a dress, no one will think less of you. If you can come up with some easy way of making your gun not straight black that would be nice is all. I have some pink zebra stripe tape if hello kitty isn't doing it for ya.

@Taer: Sweet! I was worried Dayko had fallen off the face of the earth or something. Glad he and his brother can make it. That thing is ridiculous. Can't wait to see it in action.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about darts. I have a number for all to use and our combined total should be more than enough. Thanks again for all your contributions guys, it makes my life much easier.
