Hi Everyone,

FNG here. I've been making some tactical rail attachment pieces for my guns. Simple things like iron sights and dart holders to start. However, I'm having trouble getting consistent fit on the rails across my guns. For example, if I take one of my pieces and slide it onto my Vortex rail it fits perfectly, if I take the same piece and try to slide it on my Nitefinder, it is a really tight fit. I'm just wondering if you have found that the tactical rails change from gun to gun. I find this very strange considering Nerf sells accessories for the rail system. Perhaps I am missing something? Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Ah, are there any other blasters notorious for this? I'd like to make them as universal as possible.

I see. I am trying to integrate something similar by means of a tension screw. However, I have to find good dimensions for the actual rail sliding portion or it renders the tension screw useless.

I'll tell you this: I had a Magstrike that was either poorly formed or they're all like this: The rail was so loose, the locking nub didn't even engage. Never seen anything else like it ever.

If you really want to have secure, swappable attachments then I would invest in actual tactical rails instead of the nerf stuff. You can buy a picatinny rail for like $5 shipped from China.

After some more testing today I've come to the conclusion that Nerf does not care too much how standardized the dimensions on these rails are. They are cranking these things out in injection molding machines by the hundreds of thousands and there is no way they're paying attention to tolerances on the tac rails. This makes it a little hard for me to design parts for but I think I can still make it work.

Yep, it's unfortunate. Some sort of screw system like Slydev does may be in order.

Good luck, I like that there's more 3D printed accessories out now.
