I have a Doomsayer that I'm required to use stock darts with for HvZ. It has 17/32" brass barrels which are obviously the optimal springer fit around elite streamlines, however, most darts are slightly (maybe a mm or two) too large to push into the barrels from behind by hand. So, my question is, is there an established way to slightly shrink stock darts, or does anybody have a method for doing so?

I have found that darts twisted into the size barrel you are using, and then left there for a while, will permanently shrink a bit. Might be enough for your purposes.

Are you allowed to use straw-insert streamlines? The extra rigidity should let you push them in all the way.
There's also a voodoo method where people freeze their darts over night, but that has a very low reported success rate.

Rolling the dart between your palms will shrink it a bit.

I agree with hero, but you can also stick the darts into something smaller than 17/32 for about five minutes, and you will have a shrunken dart. Just for future reference I would not use 17/32 because it is harder to taper, instead I would recommend something around that size, like: http://www.mcmaster....-tubing/=lkdgie or http://www.mcmaster....tubing/=lkdgr7. These are able to be reamed but still maintain a similar ID to 17/32.

Spraying your darts with air duster (the can needs to be upside down),
will shrink your darts effectively and quickly.


Take serious precaution when your doing this.

I work at Radioshack so I can get canned air cheap. I'll try this tomorrow!

Upside-down 'canned air' is a freeze spray. The air inside the cells of the foam, like all gases, shrinks when cooled.

I wouldn't really recommend using this method in a war or HvZ, though. It seems really unwieldy. Also, lots of canned air would get expensive, and it's a greenhouse gas about 1400 times stronger than carbon dioxide (although it no longer damages the ozone layer).
