Hello, for anyone who's looking for a Nerf group within the Seattle area, I am trying to consolidate all of the smaller events that take place in order to build up a larger player base for anyone who's looking to host their own games as well as join existing ones.

On top of that, I will be trying to set up games for people to participate in, using various public parks in the greater Seattle area.

Venues will include (pending permission from the park authorities of course):
* Magnolia Park
* Gasworks Park
* Marymoor Park
* UW Campus Grounds (when UW HvZ is NOT going on)
* Possibly indoor venues if there is enough interest

Game types will be:
* Humans vs Zombies
* Capture the Flag
* Team skirmishes
* Free For All/King of the Hill
* Whatever else

For the games WE will host, general rules:
* Ages 17+ to participate, under the age requires guardian supervision
* Stock and modded weapons preferred, homebrew allowed on per-inspection basis
* Depending on the venue, realistic paint jobs may not be allowed
* Eye equipment required at all times.

As this is more of a group for all Seattle events, anyone who also hosts a game may contact me to have their event posted as an official event for people to sign up for (basically we will plug your game for free, all you have to do is provide the information regrading it and we will take care of the rest)

Website is here ( http://www.meetup.com/SeattleNerf/ )
Please let your friends know!

We are currently in a six month beta test to see if we can garner enough interest in the Seattle area to have these games.

--------

FIRST GAME INFORMATION:

DATE: March 23, 2013 SATURDAY
LOCATION: Magnolia Park, Seattle WA
TIME: 12PM-4:30PM (or when you get sick of playing)
GAME TYPES:
* Capture the Flag
* Humans vs Zombies
* Free For All
NERF Gun Types:
* Stock preferred, modded allowed [No homebrew allowed for this first game]

NO FEES TO ATTEND. Participants must be 17+ of age. If under, you must have guardian supervision.
Please see the website for more information. If you still have questions just message me.

You kind of address it on your Meetup page, but what are dart expectations? Stock darts or stefans?
You seem to be well organized, have you hosted NIC style wars before or has it mostly been HvZ games?
You say stock and modded blasters are allowed, but i get the feeling that your personal group will be packing mostly stock and or 60' blasters. The crowd you are advertising to here are packing a lot of 100'+ blasters as basic gear. You may want to be a little more specific about the "tone" of this war.

That being said, Im in Seattle and very interested.

I'm interested and in Seattle. In my experience in city stuff can be touch and go. I would be down for mildly modded guns.

I'm going to try to take the train up. See if I can maybe take the bus to the park, could be fun. Thanks for organizing. I'll post back for sure if I end up planning on coming.

Shoangore isn't actually going to make it to the event after all (lame) so I'm going to be running this one. I'm a veteran HvZ player and my love of Nerf goes all the way back to the original Nerf bow and arrow (I remember my arrowstorm fondly as well). Haven't decided on the format precisely yet since it will depend on how many people show up and what all they bring, but hoping for the usual types of games like CTF, team deathmatch, free for all, etc. I am also open to doing some training for HvZ if people are interested, since there are a few drills that are useful for that type of event such as every time you stun a zombie you must reload, and every time you stun a zombie you must open the jam door and remove a dart. Feel free to bring your nerf melee weapons too. As long as we're having fun, we can do whatever we want.

In terms of what's allowed and rules: The spirit of the rules is "don't injure anyone and don't get anyone arrested." A few specifics though:

For weapons and such: Stefans and generally other home-made darts are fine so long as they are similar in function to stock nerf darts. If a mod increases the probability of injury to a player then it's not fine. Making a new dart out of some other kind of foam is find, adding a thumbtack to the end of your darts for increased stopping power is not fine.

Modded blasters are also fine in general, as well as home-made blasters although if there's any doubt as to the power level of your blaster, then I am going to shoot you with it at very close range at a target of my choosing, which will most likely be face (while wearing eye protection), and then measuring the volume of your screams, the number of tears, and the size and general discoloration of the bruise and make a decision. Home-made blowguns are generally fine also.

Painting blasters is also fine, but no matter how you paint it, it should be readily and easily apparent that it is not a real gun (especially from somewhat far away) and orange tips are required as well. I really don't feel like having the police show up (unless they bring their nerf blasters and want to play, in which case that would be awesome).

Eye protection is also required; any kind of shooting glasses or safety goggles and such are probably fine. Sunglasses *might* be ok (tinted shooting glasses are fine) but it will depend on whether or not a modded blaster could shoot them off your face easily (and I reserve the right to empirically test this as well).

One last thing: As previously mentioned, this group is kind of a beta test to see how much interest there is as well as a way for Nerf enthusiasts to meet each other and even recruit people for other Nerf war events (a few of us, myself included, will be recruiting for the upcoming Zombie! game this summer). I really hope that we get a decent turnout here so tell your friends and feel free to bring others if you like. I'd like for everyone to join the Meetup group (http://www.meetup.com/SeattleNerf/) and RSVP so I can get an idea of how many to expect (there's a non-zero chance I'll bring some snack foods and beverages also) but even if you don't, then just show up. Hope to see a bunch of people there

Unfortunately I won't be in Seattle this semester, but I will be there during the summer and will make sure to attend any events. I would love to play HvZ as I go to Virginia Tech and it's sort of hard to swing a large scale nerf battle considering circumstances.... Anyway, just wanted to say I will be there this summer, will bring friends, and will probably bring Microsoft interns (and hopefully some Full time people)

Looking forward to seeing you in the summer then. You should join the meetup group if you haven't already

I'm really not trying to be difficult here, so I apologize if this sounds like I'm being a jerk.

It sounds like people should expect games and blasters on the level of a game of HvZ, is this correct? By this I would mean basic mods (air restricter and lock removals, etc) ranges of 30-50' and an emphasis on magazine fed blasters (N-strike and Elite.)
There are a handful of wars here in washington, not all are Seattle specific though.

- The Olympia Foam Society hosts HvZ games on the Evergreen College campus. These games, I believe, tend to use stock darts, basic performance mods, but extensive and cool cosmetic and tactical mods (lights and sights) and have a RPG aspect to them.
- Theres a war out in Anacortas at an old military bunker. These games also used stock darts due to restrictions at the park. The organizers have capped ranges as the firefights tend to be indoors and up close.
- Then there is the War at Marymoor park in Redmond. These games allow stock darts and blasters, stefans, modded blasters and homemade blasters. No blasters that fire over 120' and there is something of an understanding that you will be outclassed if you can't fire around 70' which is hard to do with stock darts.

Stefans/homemade darts are going to hurt a good amount even out of a lightly modded nitefinder when shot at the face pointblank. Hell, I bet getting hit in the face by one of the new Elite blasters with stock Elite darts sucks quite a bit! I won't use a blaster I'm not willing to be hit with myself but I not be intentionally shot in the face by ANY modded blaster at pointblank.

It has never been my understanding that stefans are meant to keep dart costs down, they are more intended to increase range and accuracy. As far as construction is concerned, its rather standardized for an internet DIY phenomenon. Hot glue heads with steel bbs as weights on insulating foam or felt covered washers on insulating foam. My point is stefans are going to hurt more than stock darts out of any blaster and at any range.

TL;DR
I doubt that the people using stock darts are signing up to be hit with stefans. I feel a "max" standard needs to be established for both ranges and ammo so people know what to expect.
And I don't want to be the asshole who shows up with only century cannons and stefans if everyone else is packing stock darts and blasters capped at 50'.

There's another war you missed called "Zombie!" by L.A.S.T. games that's in August, sounds like the same idea as what Olympia Foam Society from how you described it (http://www.biomechine.net/zombie.php)

I think games and blasters around HvZ level is probably what you should expect but I really have absolutely no idea since we haven't had any meetings of this group yet. It hurts to get hit with darts sometimes at close range, particularly if blasters are modded, however there's a difference between getting hit with a stefan from a modded blaster (maybe painful) and getting hit with a stefan from my old crossbow that could also shoot paintballs (and could break them at 50 yards level on clothes. Really miss that thing). This is one of those things that we're just going to have to figure out when everyone gets there. I'm not just going to go randomly shooting people in the face with their own blasters though, despite how tempting it may be.
