To everyone on the east cost of the US, how have you weathered Hurricane Sandy?

Near DC things were not so bad, but the news reports from New York and New Jersey sound rather bad. I hope everything goes well for everyone affected by the storm.

For my area (central PA), hurricane Sandy was over-hyped.

We had no more than 1" of rain over a period of two days. And wind was kept to a minimum.

My power flickered for 2 sec but that's it.

The super storm was projected to smash right into my area but it seems it was everywhere around me.

Though, I know Philadelphia and its surrounding areas got hit really hard, PA was under State Weather Alert so, I had off today and yesterday even though conditions were mild.

As far as I understand, the coastal areas were hit pretty bad (I saw a picture of some flooding at the wharf in Boston)
but inland wasn't really anything, we did have school cancelled for two days though.

In all the storm that hit the Hartford area wasn't anywhere near as bad as the completely normal rain storm we had two weeks ago (just to put it in perspective)

Almost all of my family is in Long Island, New York. The damage was terrible. One of my cousins had water almost to the top of her 6 foot fence. Although her house is four feet from ground, her first floor was thigh deep in water. My grandparents house has an absolutely flooded basement, one of my other friend's house is pretty bad. My uncle did rescue a 92-year-old women from her home. She was left behind in all of the evacuation, and was just sitting in her chair, leg deep in water. I hope she was the only one like that.

not as bad as it sounds just went by my house last night but it did take away my ability to type like a competent human being so i'll probably be banned if it doesnt get fixed

Wasn't as bad as I expected. No tree/wind damage around me, but my basement did flood, though my dad discovered the water while it was just enough to soak the carpet, thank goodness.

I got hit pretty hard, with about 6 inches of rain, and power is out on every house in my town...except my street, which is weird. Lots of trees down, no school, the works. I live right outside Philly by the way.

Wasn't too bad around here. Lots of fallen trees and we lost power for a while. Tons of rain but it doesn't look like any flooding. Also cell phone service was lost during that time.

I live on Long Island, nothing too bad happened to me except that the storm cancelled the final 3 days of my schools HvZ game. I'm kind of upset about that.

Power is still out at my place. The roads were closed until this evening. Lots of flooding just a couple of blocks from where I live but no damage to my house. Staying with my folks since they have power and internet.

Where I live Sandy did not affect us too bad. Thoughts are with people who were hit harder than us.

Not awful around me, but an old rotted tree did land on the trunk of my dads car. At least he didn't leave the full gas can for the generator in there.

But people on the coast (Fairfield) were hit bad. My cousins had 3ft of water in their first floor.

Recovery is going fast though.

Manhattan is completely dark south of 34th st. No power, no water, no cell towers. I'm in Jersey till Con Ed gets the power back.

Rain and flooding affected the coastal regions more, Long beach was hit hard, parts of Baldwin are flooded. I'm able to type this from my Uncle's house who is one of the few people in town that have power.

It could have been much worse, but that's not to say it's good. Hanging in there = )

My house had power until after the storm; woke up Monday morning and everything was dead. Just got power and Internet back on today though, so that's a relief. All the schools in my are closed until Thursday, now till Friday

We fared better than most. Never lost power thank God. My in-laws and my parents had no power till last night and this morning. John had no power until yesterday afternoon. All in all fuck tons of trees dow around us, but no flooding. Haf crazy winds but barely any rain.

Yeah Oceanside, Long Beach, and the areas around it got a beating. A lot of home damage. I'm glad that some parts of the Island faired well.

As of now most of the trees are cleared out of the road, some are still down in people's yards but the roads are mostly clear.

The big problem now is going to be getting power back. I've heard reports of anywhere from a week to a month, so many people are out that it's going to take a while to fix everything. One of the problems being the power guys can't take care of the downed lines until the tree guys take care of the downed trees on those downed lines.

We actually got up to 60 mile per hour winds when the greatly weakened of sandy went through Detroit. There were multiple schools closed in the area and one of the two high schools from our sister district had no school due to lost power. Around half of the people at my school had no power Monday and some still don't have it back. We had our two stone flower pots that have 4' tall pine trees in them thrown around 15' across our yard. I have heard reports of 25' tall waves in the great lakes.

My town is still 100% without power. Most of the roads are finally open and passable, some still have trees down creating one lane necks. 3 trees fell in the driveway and there are still loose wires all over my street. Luckily it was almost all wind, and our coast did not take as hard a hit as in Jersey. My cousin got out of her lease and moved the day before Sandy hit. Her ex house on Fairfield Beach road was literally washed away, there is no trace of it. The lack of power is not nearly as bad as the lack of heat and water.

A tree fell on my garage and now the entire frame is tilted. One end is about 7 inches off the ground. Almost all of my blasters were in there, too. All I have now is an Alpha Trooper and a Vortex Gun. I'm in North Merrick BTW.
