So I'm getting really close to figuring out what Nerf uses to lubricate their guns. It's not really significant because everyone seems to use that silicon grease anyway, but I'd really like to know what Nerf officially uses. My guess is that they use mineral oil mixed with teflon oil of some sort. Does anyone know if this is true? I seriously hope it's not some unrealeased proprietary mixture.

Why would it matter? Regardless, it is transparent and does not appear to have any particulates within. Teflon/PTFE is a solid at room temperature and cannot be made in a liquid form. Any lubricants which contain it are suspensions of very fine grains of solid PTFE, and usually appear translucent or opaque. Hasbro uses either a mineral oil or silicone grease, but it doesn't really matter.

I'd prefer not having to taste it to determine what it is lol.

I totally agree,
It's disgusting,
It tastes bitter, and sharp and nasty in general.

I'm incredibly glad that we could establish this. Thanks guys.

Not to sound like a smartass, but have you tried messaging them? That is the only way to be 100% sure.

If you are looking into this in the case that you want to use it and it isn't purely curiosity, I'm fairly positive that silicone grease actually works better than the oil that Nerf uses in the guns.

My guess is it's some type of mineral oil. It should be pointed out that the exact brand or makeup likely varies, even within a production run of the same blaster. The engineers at Hasbro will give their line in china some specs on the lubricant, and the logistics people there will source out a batch from wherever they can get it cheapest.

It tastes bitter, and sharp and nasty in general.

A lot of industrial chemicals have additives which make them taste very bitter, so as to dissuade children from licking or drinking them (with the odd exception of antifreeze, which is delicious).

Just in case any retarded kids get the wrong idea:
Don't drink antifreeze. Death is a common side effect.
