[Ice Nine]

This is the second and final YANO of 2012. Let's turn it out before 2013, or whatever. I promised Kane and Ryan I would post up this topic as soon as they confirmed (or nearly confirmed) their ticket purchase.

Yes. Kane and Ryan are visiting because they are trying to escape real winter. Let us have a good time.

When:
8 December 2012
10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (because it will probably be dark by four)

Where:

Bonelli Park
120 Via Verde
San Dimas, CA 91773
We will be playing in the East Picnic Zone. To get there, enter the park and hang right on the road. You will pass a very large play structure after about a minute and a half of driving. A minute after that there will be a sign and a road you can turn left onto in order to reach a parking area. The sign will point to the road as the way to get to the East Picnic Zone.

What to bring:
- Nerf (and other brand) blasters, and homemades. Melee weapons are allowed, but no shields.
- Eye protection (mandatory for all participating parties).
- Water, or similarly hydrating beverage.
- DARTS: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.
- If you are making normal slug darts, make them with #6 washers ONLY. No #8 washers. If you need instructions, this is the guide you should use.
- Kane and Ryan will almost certainly not be bringing traditional slug darts. They will have darts that do not have any sort of hard plastic or metal in them, including but not limited to VANS and the silicone-dome darts.
- Update: The hosts will be providing many AMIORs for free use. They are pink foam, fit tightly in CPVC, and are metal-free and safe. There will be a lot of them.
- Any kind of dart that fits under this category (i.e. Kane-developed safe darts) should be fine. I will happily answer any and all questions. If you want a harsher opinion, ask Kane.

What not to bring:
- No guns with an airtank bigger than the airtank on a UMB, unless you are exclusively firing larger ammo (e.g. Draconis rockets). I will spot ban things I find suspicious.
- Any sort of glue-tipped dart. Aim to keep dart mass under 1.3g, if they contain metal. Aim to have them tipped with felt, because that's easy. Silicone also works.
- Nothing painted black, and no Sceptors with uncovered tanks.

Other information:
- This war is structured to play like wars in Chicago and on the East coast. Gametypes will primarily be in the vein of carpe testiculum and deathmatch as a result, with a heavy bias towards the former.
- No barrel taps. Your ammo should be soft, and will do less damage than hitting them with the barrel of your gun.
- If you haven't made slug darts before, don't worry. They're cheap and simple. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO MAKE THEM.

Oh, so no hoppered big blasts? Are pump plugged UMBs war legal? Yes, I'm a n00b. I'm looking to go, but my mom doesn't seem too thrilled at the fact that she has to drive me an hour and a half for a nerf war . If I do go, I can donate one bucket for carpe and a few balls (hehe).

Would it be possible for me to purchase some slugs/friendlier darts from someone? I'd like to bring a group of my students with me if possible, and I don't have the time to sit down to make any sort of darts. And since all I've got are domes, the only blasters I'd be able to use are my ball guns. That's fine with me, but most of my students aren't much for that.

No Big Blasts. No plugged pumps on anything; stock OPRVs are more than enough to send a dart a long distance. We hope to see you there, but just bring yourself and your equipment. I am confident that I can supply the other things.

I can't promise, but in November I'm going to try and make a lot of slug darts, more than enough to lend out. I'll put it in this thread if I can supply for people, or feel free to hit me up directly if your attendance hinges on this.

Looking forward to seeing people there. I'm almost done with midterms for the near future so hopefully I can get to scouting that park soon and get the location finalized.

Hey, I can make you some slugs. How many do you you need and what is you barrel material? Will foam from mcmaster cut it? I just need money for materials, since I love making darts.

I wanted to wait until Ryan and Kane confirmed their ticket purchase before I scouted the park, so I went today to check out Bonelli. First, the bad news: I had to pay $10 to get in. The good news: Bonelli Park's rules state that, on non-holiday weekends from November to February, the park is free to enter. This was a holiday weekend; 8 December is not a holiday weekend. Parking should be free. This is helpful.

The park itself is very nice. It is right next to Raging Waters in San Dimas, off the 57 freeway. It has a lot of space, and a lot of parking. There are many picnic tables and actual bathrooms in the park, as well as water fountains, so some facilities are covered. I am not certain how close fast food is, so I would recommend that people bring food or snacks. I'll try and bring water bottles for people. Here are some pictures I took of the park:

My personal first choice is the East Picnic Valley. It had the most trees and other structured obstacles, as well as two very large play structures and a very nearby bathroom. Second choice and probably the fallback site is the West Picnic Valley, which is larger and easier to stay away from people. There were very few people at the park while I was there today, so hopefully it stays like that in December.

All in all, I think this is very promising. I'm going to solidify this as the location if no one has any objections or other suggestions.

There's also the possibility of actually reserving the East Picnic Valley location, but first of all the other areas come out to about four hundred dollars, and there is an error when trying to reserve the East Picnic Valley area because Los Angeles County has a terrible system.

A few additional notes of information: Mostly because of Ryan and Kane (I am contributing, but less so), there will be many safe darts at the war. Our aim is to have at least 2,000 putty VANS, which are war confirmed to work in hoppers, at the war for people to use. I am also hoping to debut a new gametype which should play more like Slayer in Halo than traditional deathmatch, but it depends on working with Langley to get the equipment for the war. Finally I updated the map in the original post to mark off the areas I looked at, and I will update it again with a finalized war location. It's looking really good so far; let's try and get some more confirmed attendances or even some longshot maybes.

Just so everyone in attendance knows, with the help of Ryan and Kane, I will have about two thousand AMIORS for people to use at the war. There should be enough for people to use them freely, I'll just put them in a bucket for people to dip into when necessary.

I am also about to order some mechanical sports counters, so hopefully they can be put to good use.

Looking forward to this war. Now is a good time for people on the fence about coming to make a commitment, it would be great to have more people there.

The AMIORs will be made with Kane and Ryan's pink foam, which means it will be tight in CPVC, and slide smoothly with a little holding friction in SCH80 PVC and PETG.

Since Ryan wants more time to work on his guns, we're going to check a bag on our flight to LA instead of shipping our guns. Since we're flying Spirit Airlines, this gives us a solid 15% chance of actually having our stuff at the war, but lets just assume that everything goes according to plan for now.

I'll be bringing an aabow and a bullPAC for my own use, both of which will be available for purchase during/after the war. I have a bunch more Aabows that I could bring in the unlikely event that multiple people were interested in them. So if that's the case, you should post something here before the war so that I know to bring them. I'll also bring some dome molds. Aabows are 50, the bullpac will be 80+-20 depending on how well the new one turns out, and dome mold sheets are $15. Most questions will be best answered by seeing the items in question, but feel to PM me otherwise.

Ryan will also be bringing blasters that are interchangeable with money.
