AFTER-ACTION REVIEW

Definition-

An AAR is a professional discussion of an event, focused on performance standards, that enables people to discover for themselves What happened, Why it happened and How to sustain strengths and improve on weaknesses. It is a tool hosts and players can use to get maximum benefit from every event or game.

Objective-

The objective of an AAR is to improve individual and collective task performance by providing immediate feedback about how the event or games could have been done better.

Observer: Blood Angel
Who Attended: Up to 9 players
When: 20 OCT 2012
Where: Battlefield Braly (675 Gail Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94086)
AAR Type: Informal

- What was planned?
BURN Round 10 was planned to get an overall feel for the new "Hats" game type.

- What actually occurred? (facts not judgments)
A smaller turn out made my prototype weapon system: The Airow Gun Nerf less ideal. With a smaller amount of people are targets, the speed of the game increases. Hitting fast moving targets is hard no matter the weapon system. Firepower is more important with few players. The barrel slot vent porting system added to my RSCB type barrel was ideal for Elite streamlines. I could now safely and effectively fire multiple shots from the Airow Gun Bow without having to reload after each shot.

- What went well and why?
The "Hats" game was fun and much faster than I thought it would be. People seem to enjoy the tactics and thinking that go along with the class system involved with the game.

- What can be improved and how?
There was a long discussion that involves other roles that could be played, modifications to existing hat classes, and what could be the order of following classes should there be more than 8 players. No resolution was found, and consideration is still on going.

Pictures from the event are now up here: http://cheriepfaff.smugmug.com/Nerf/BURN-2012/BURN-10-Nerf-House-102012/26080469_SDpWzJ#!i=2166172608&k=bWw

Thanks again for the great recap Blood Angel!

Any feedback on Hats is going to be a huge help. I personally loved the flow of the game, but hearing all the opinions and points of view of the other players is going to help evolve the game and rules to better fit everyone. Also, we're trying to reevaluate some of the hat designs to go a bit wackier than the ones we used at this war. So stay tuned for that! =)
