Hey guys, I really want to go to a war. But the problem is the one around me is about two hours away. So would it be weird if I started one without even going to one first? I know I should go to one and learn from that, but I don't want to drive 2 hours! Thanks for the help. :D

I dont think that it would be that weird, just maybe not as many people would go. Also, it's good to get a feel for a war before you host one. A better option may be to check the local nerfers section and see if anyone who has been to a war lives near you, and pm them about hosting a war. Good luck anyway!

Read up on some of the rules and what not of the many war hosting threads, and build some rules and game ideas for that. If you're nervous to go to a war like I was, bring a friend, but it's actually pretty darn easy to get to know the Nerfers at wars.

It's good to experience something before doing something on your own. You can read all the rules you want, but you won't now how a war is supposed to feel unless you actually attend one. Also suck it up and drive... I travel an hour to an hour and a half for wars. Popatachi drives from Mass to NJ for wars. Also think of this... your not willing to travel 2 hours for a war, yet you want people to drive 2 hours to you.

Griever 2112 still plays with his alpha trooper quite often despite owning one of the scariest +bows.

Two hours is not very long travel time for attending a war. The First war I went to was 3 1/2 hours one way. I attend Foam in the Fort, with that being the closest to me, it's still a hour and a half away. Of course, it all depends on your parents or guardian taking you, there willingness and money to pay for gas, and other random stuff. There probably will not be another war any closer to you now. Even if you did host a war, the people in your area are probably not going to come to your war, any more than you would to their's.
See what I mean?

The more the merrier (except if you're a 10 year old with a foam sword. In which case - the fewer the better)

I have never been to an official "war", but we throw stuff together all the time. If you are like most nerfers you have a pretty decent arsenal so get a bunch of friends together on a Saturday afternoon distribute some blasters and have at it. We keep it informal and fun, it can be a blast with a as few as four guys but the more the merrier. The upside will be that you are building a local nerf community. Do it enough and it may turn into an official "war", but keep it simple and keep it fun to start.

Wow, the guy with no "official"war"" experience gives, far and away, the best advice. iModify, you don't need to attend an NIC event to run a war. And your wars don't need to resemble the former to be fun. Nerf should be done with your friends in any manner that they and you like best. If you have nerf guns and darts, get together and shoot each other. If you want some basic tried and tested game types or rules to get you started, they can be found in abundant supply in the Nerf Wars section.

The idea that you should drive hours so that your first war be an NIC run event is completely retarded. Not only will the playing field not be level, but you'll be nerfing with strangers when you could be playing with your friends in your own neighborhood. Save the roadtrips until you know you like the activity enough to warrant the trip.

Even if your "war" is just a bunch of friends playing CTF or a FFA in a house, gym, or park it's still a lot of fun. Stock, modded, or homemade...the beauty of nerf is that you have thousands of choices. Just do what you and your friends think will be the most fun and have at it!

What VACC says cuts both ways. You should absolutely get your friends together and nerf, and if you want to post here and invite NH members from your local area, feel free to do so. However, if you're hoping to get people travel from 2+ hours away to come to your war, you should probably either start with something simple with your friends and work your way up to it, or be willing to do a little travelling yourself. Good luck with your war and let us know how it goes either way.
