NEW DATE SEE BELOW

As discussed yesterday, I am trying to get a monthly Nerf war set up in the Houston area. I really like the wooded area at Schott and as long as nobody sees any reason to move, let's keep going there.

For future reference, I will tentatively schedule a war for the last Saturday of the month unless conflicts come up. The goal here is to expand--we had a lot of fun yesterday but could use a lot more than four people. So, bring your buddies. Bring your HvZ squadmates. Bring your SCA friends--they can run around with boffers and beat us over the heads. Bring your wives and your girlfriends (but obviously not both at the same time).

Posted Image

Location: Humble City Park/Hilton C. Schott Park
8510 Will Clayton Drive Humble, TX 77396
Date/Time: Saturday, October 6, 11 AM until we get tired (I will stick around longer this time, promise).

Specifically, I will try to get us over in the wooded area by the alpine obstacle course. That was a really nice spot in my opinion. Park over by the H on the map--the main parking lot is a bit of a ways away.

What to bring:
-Eye Protection (seriously, guys, let's not get hurt)
-Blasters: Primary, Secondary, Etc. Bring more if you'd like, and loaner blasters are very important if we want to expand. Give the newbies a taste.
-Horribles: Bring at least one truly crap blaster/pistol/what-have-you
-Ball Blasters: We all seemed to have a blast with the ball rounds and they will continue.
-Rocket Launchers, arrows, disc launchers, anything that fires wacky stuff is great!
-Stuff for trading. Work it out in this thread or just bring some choice items. Most of us have a decent collection, so bringing a bunch of crap will just wear you out.
-Hydration. There will be a cooler full of blue Gatorade and bottled water if so needed, and donations are appreciated to cover said cost, but unnecessary/
-Melee is allowed and encouraged. Anything made by Nerf or within SCA guidelines is acceptable to me, although I reserve the right to spot-ban anything that I think is unsafe. Shields are more than fine as well, particularly if you're going melee.
-Darts. Lots of them. There's practically no grass where we've been playing, but you will lose some.
-Good attitude, but that goes without saying.

What Not to Bring:
-Overly powerful blasters, like a singled Titan or whatnot.
-Crap darts. No exposed metal, please. I personally don't care if you're shooting slugs or domes or stock darts or what have you, but let's not go crazy.
-Camo/Black/Realistic blasters. Historically this hasn't been a problem.

We'll be doing a lot of Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch/Wingman rounds and probably some CTF and perhaps Assault the Fort or Offend the Core should we get enough of a crowd. Other games to be discussed.

Mobstacles remain a wonderful dream of mine that has yet to come to fruition, but we'll see what happens with the Mother-In-Law.

Definites:
JPRoth1980

Maybes:
ilikefish58
+1 or 2 for JPRoth1980 (but they always say that)

NOTE: If you need directions or anything of the sort, PM me and I will give you my cell number.

[EDIT: Wow, that was strange. Accidentally copy/pasted the last war instead of the next one. Sorry!]

Psh. Maybe if I can use unpadded rattan. Basket-punches are kind of like barrel taps, right?

Added this to the 2016 Nerf War Schedule. Please try to post in that thread any time you set a date for a new war.

Oops, you did indeed. I have 50 posts per page as my custom setting and your post is on page two, so I didn't see it. Either way, you're up there now.

Hey guys! San Antonio nerfer here, I would be willing to make the drive over to H-town but I won't be able to make this month's war. Unfortunately I didn't request off work in time. If you guys have a HAMNO 3 in November, then count me in.

I'm pretty new to homemades but I have constructed a R3L-esque blaster extremely similar to SGnerf's original with the modular trigger/catch T-joint.

Here is a pic:

Posted Image

What do you guys think, would I be able to bring and use this blaster? It gets mad distance with streamlines (only tested indoor though). I am currently working on a batch of stefans.

P.S. Im not sure if this post counts as a thread necro. Since it has been over one month since the last post but the war date hasn't come and gone yet, I didn't think it would. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

It'll probably be fine. I use a my shortened pumpsnap, JPRoth has a NoM pumpsnap he'll be using, and ilikefish has used overhauled 3k's, so I doubt there will be any problem with it.

As for a HAMNO in November, I can't say for sure, but I'm going to say we most likely will, and we'd love to see you there!

Regarding the blaster in question, I see absolutely no problem with it on initial look, and as long as it isn't doing anything insanely dangerous, I will likely continue to see no problem with it. As Snakerbot mentioned, a few of us have some pretty high-powered stuff, and I'll be bringing a lot more to loan out.

We will likely have a HAMNO every month. This one is meant to be September's, but was pushed back due to HvZ in College Station (amongst other things). If everyone is amenable, we'll have one towards the end of October and another in November.

If you are interested, I highly recommend you join the Houston Area Nerfers FB group: http://www.facebook....37580603054643/ for more information. We're small at the moment, but with plans to continue to grow and grow. After all, wars are fun.

I'll have 2 modded Panthers at least one with an RSCB, the longshot, cheap snap and maybe a pumpsnap, but unlikely I will have time to finish it before this weekend.

Ok, nice. Sounds like you guys have some pretty good gear.

Haha, no it doesn't do anything dangerous at all and probably isn't even in the same class (rangewise) as some of the blasters you guys are using. I'm not sure of the ranges that a NoM pumpsnap gets but if NoM built it, I'm already outclassed.

I could definately attend a late October HAMNO, possibly bringing another guy with me. He is mostly into paintball on the weekends but I showed him my homemade and he seemed to like the idea.

Although I am interested, I actually dont use Facebook. That must sound pretty strange huh.

In fairness, I hadn't seen the design before, but after some research, it looks pretty darned neat. By all means, bring it over here and shoot us with it.

I actually did not use Facebook much if at all prior to messing around with Nerf stuff. I find it useful for that, if nothing else, but I understand your reticence. In that case, keep an eye over here and we'll get things up ASAP. The primary reason for having the FB group is for somewhat more individualized information to get up there and for me to post pictures of pigs (HAMno, get it?).

I know you haven't seen it because its been out of commission for a while, but I had an R3l in a longstrike shell that I used in 2011. Snakerbot has seen it. It looks like this one has more draw than mine did, so I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking the pumpsnap will outrange it, though the R3l will still be plenty competitive.

I agree the design is quite neat. SGnerf's original R3L is pretty awesome.

I will be sure to check this thread often for HAMNO updates. Nice pun by the way haha.

Out of commission how? As in, made obsolete by a more advanced trigger/catch system? If so then please do enlighten me. My skills at blaster construction are basic but I would like to stay on the cutting edge.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce the 140' ranges that SGnerf's R3L gets. It has 9" of draw while my adaptation only has around 5.5" and is hitting just past 60' with regular streamlines. I haven't finished this new batch of slugs yet, so I can't do a real distance test. I am looking forward to having the day off work tomorrow and finishing up though. I will post the results.

I believe that what my esteemed colleague meant was that he was no longer using his version, for any of a number of reasons, by the time I started poking my nose around the local wars. Now, as far as what is "cutting edge," that's going to be a bit of a debate based largely on personal perception, particularly since there are a lot of blasters that have hit the plateau of slug performance.

For what it's worth, I have a shoebox full of slugs that I can loan out during HAMNO and a pillowcase full of blanks to make more with. Locally, we have some great modders who can always give you some help if you find yourself at a bit of a sticking point as well.

Oh, I see. Strong reading comprehension on my part haha. Well anyways, I would say the most cutting edge blasters I have seen so far are the polycarb +bows. I would really like to obtain one of those. I don't have access to the machines required to make one myself, so I will be on the lookout for sales threads.

On the subject of your slugs, I appreciate your generosity and will gladly use some if for some reason I don't have my own ready. I'm currently working on a batch of a hundred, just need put some tips on them.

We're getting way off topic here, but PlusBows really aren't the end-all, be-all anymore; in fact, they are outclassed significantly by things like PumpSnaps and RainbowPumps, both of which get similar if not greater range and have a much higher RoF. But they do look really darned cool.

I believe that ilikefish58 or Snakerbot can theoretically make a PlusBow--I lack the tools and discipline to do so--and they might be interested if you contact them.

I haven't really looked into it. I don't have a scrollsaw, but I believe, based on past experience with rainbow catches and the like, that I can make the necessary internal cuts with my dremel and some clever drill press work.

But really, plusbows are overrated.

EDIT: While I'm here, I have a likely +1 now.

I don't know how this happens, but I seem to have lost all my balls. I had them all when I left CS after HvZ, its just after that, I have no clue. So, I'll be bringing my stock big salvo in lieu of the pulsator.

(Insert castration-themed humor here).

I've got plenty of balls, for what it's worth. Bring the Pulsator if you can. If not, no worries.

Man, I really hope that I can make the next HAMNO. Well, now I've actually got a bunch of great homemades (instead of going with bows...).
R3L's were popular a while ago. I made one thinking that they were superior to snaps, but they tend to jam frequently.
Plusbows look great, but perform on par with pumpsnaps or rainbowpumps.

Mine has never jammed. Maybe the catch wasn't opening up all the way? Just a thought..

Anyway, so how did HAMNO go yesterday guys? I'm eager to hear about the turnout and such.

Small turnout, as per usual--we had 5 guys show. Lots of fun for everyone.

Highlights:
+PumpSnap 3.0. Holy cow is that thing nice. Making Snakerbot drop was fun.
+Russell's amazing 100+ foot shot with the crossbow. That was just pretty.
+staltus' amazing melee skills. If you have to cross blades with him, just go ahead and ask for a quick death.
+I now have 10 Panthers. Too many?
+ilikefish58's Jolt kill.
+Each time I see Snakerbot's PumpSnap it fills me with dread. That is an impressive-looking blaster.
+ilikefish58 proving, once again, that Vortex can be a force to contend with.

Lowlights:
-Small turnout again. But apparently I have four girls showing up either to October or November's war.
-staltus' damned luck. I mean, seriously.
-I had more head and handshots than everyone else combined. What gives?

Pretty good little war.

+Russel's crossbow shot. Had to be at least 150'. Hit me dead in the chest on the first try.
+Nitefinder rifle being a reliable backup primary and working well.
+Jolt, NF double kill to win a round.
+Running from staltus in the melee round.
+Running from snakerbot in the melee round.
+Hitting the deck every time I heard the PumpSnap 3.0 fire.
+Curving the bulle...err discs.

-Tornado 3k finally broke down. Think its a "blown tubing" issue.
-Camera mount no longer fitting my phone in its new case. Will likely just have a GoPro for the next one.
-Small turnout. Sounds like the next one might be better, though.
-staltus rolling his ankle, hurting his back, and getting head shot all day.

All in all, it was worth it. Lot of fun.

+Good weather
+More lasers
+Lots of good shots in general, from everyone. There were at least a couple of shots that hit people mostly-hiding-behind-trees.
+Dodging 13 (I think. That's how many I picked up from behind me afterward) disks from ilikefish58.

-My xbow's integrated 2k broke. Turns out it blew the tubing off a barbed connector.
-Not having my phone recording in 3D mode when JPRoth shot at me.
-Not much video in general. I'll look through what I have though. Don't expect an edited war video, but I might post the raw stuff.
-staltus getting hurt.

Had fun overall. See you guys in CS.
