Hey all, I'm pretty (read: very) new to the world of modding and nerf, still waiting on my first components and blaster. But I was thinking of picking up a cheap Maverick and having a bit of a tinker in the mean time. The obvious beginners mods are AR removal, installing a post-market spring, penny-mod, Russian roulette, all that stuff. But I've heard that the AR removal can make Mavericks prone to jamming, not to mention that I'd like my Maverick to perform at peak while using streamlines (which my primary blaster, and all of my mate's blasters will be using). While I'm sure that this is not an original idea, my thought was, inspired by the Angel/Brass breach mods performed on other blasters, to clad the inside of the Maverick's chambers with brass tubing fitted to fire streamlines. Obviously this would eliminate its ability to fire whistlers, taggers, sonic micros, etc. (something I can easily live with), but would (hypothetically) increase its ability to handle streamlines exponentially.

Has anyone else experimented with this before? If so, what have their results been? If not, what do the wiser, more experienced modding minds make of this idea?

Cheers!

Don't waste brass on a maverick. Glue the slip clutch together to prevent jams. Mavs are pretty useless unless everybody is using reverse plunger blasters.

A Maverick should not be your first mod. Buy a Nitefinder instead - it is much simpler to modify, and is capable of far better performance than a Maverick will every provide.

well ,it is actually true that modding a maverick as your first mod isnt the best idea.... well i was being a douchebag, and themavercik was actually my first mod. Like suggested, modd a smaller gun like a nite finder or a switch shot, it gets preety good ranges, even thought the fact that the dart fish tails.

Also my maverick, does jam so much more often with the ar removal, and it jams, like every 6 shots....

So be warned...
anyways, have fun modding!

The general rule here is to do some experimenting yourself; what you read from others won't really teach you what is effective and what isn't.

I agree with Ktcookie & like him my 1st go at moding was a maverick. Personaly the brassing idea sounds cool, I might even have to steal it from you when I get around to geting some brass myself. Unless these guys are paying you to mod the blaster for them who realy cares what they think, it's a hobby have fun.

A Maverick is cheap, just go ahead and experiment, you don't need to obtain approval from here.

You won't learn anything if you don't experiment.

I always strongly recommend against Mavericks because they may turn off people from modding. Of course, you don't need our permission to mod a Maverick, but... advice was asked for, and I gave a strong recommendation.

I can actually vouch for what Beaver is saying; I modded a friends Mav once and drilled out the ARs. When I put it back together, it hardly shot two feet. Now he refuses to let me mod any of his blasters for him. So, yeah, just buy an NF.

I don't think brass barreling a Mav, since the plunger-to-barrel seal isn't very good stock. I think if you brass breech it, it wouldn't do much, since although making a smoother barrel, it is also tighter, and if the air can't push it out of the barrel, it'll just leak from the gap to the barrel. Quite interested to try it out if I can thrift a Mav though.

That would be very useful to put in the new users survival guide, along with other edits.
