My friend and I have gotten far past the point of "modding" a gun with rubber bands, duct tape, and copper barrels. In a few weeks we will have a working prototype of a VERY DURABLE custom made high powered rifle, better than the best modded crossbow. One working prototype we had of a different gun put a welt on my chest from 20 feet that lasted for a WEEK! My proto is less powerful, a a litte less than a LnL, but with a 10 shot removable clip.

Sounds fun. As mentioned by others, homemade nerf guns have a long and storied history in the online nerf community. Hope yours provides something new and interesting.

I agree that there definitely isn't enough money in the community to support it as an actual career. I count myself lucky to have a hobby that mostly pays for itself. Every few months I sell a couple of my modded guns for $20-40 profit just to keep this nerf thing from sucking my account dry.

Lol you mean you do sell all those backup maxshots and at3k's.... Hey, how about you sell a few of those Maxhots to me and 2 other friends eh? What about it? Eh? Eh? Oogabooga. Ok I'm done, but seriously, we could use a few maxshots over here- the reload time on my expanded sm5k is atrocious and I need a good range gun with a faster reload time.

Actually, the vast majority of the guns I've sold have been brass modded splitfires.

I've sold 8 of them for $40-50 each.

I'm not really interested in shipping anything anywhere unless the deal is too phenomenal to pass up. I'll either sell them locally or wait for the price to go up to the point that it's worth bothering to ship them.

Your complaint regarding my minimum order policy has been registered. Have a nice day.

My brothers 2k gave me a scar on my arm. It isnt going away. Thats pretty cool Kat, but alot of people have taken modding past duct tape and rubber bands, theres just less topics about them. Kat, thats a cool business. A nerf resale business! Im curious, did you start that because you wanted to sell nerf guns, or because you became aware of the NIC?

THIRST

Meh, resale is okay, but we've gotten past cleaning up and fixing old guns. There's only so much you can do with crappy guns. 70% of Nerfguns really aren't that good, even when you clear out anything restricting airflow, or put a new spring in, or replace the o-rings and seals... We've done it for about 2 years now and it's time to move on to manufacturing our own out of metal components and high grade resin.

The reason we started doing this was because of the growing demand at Universites in the state for nerf. As some of you know, airsoft and paintball guns are outlawed on University campuses. Also, it's illegal to use them within city limits of some cities. High powered nerf is the perfect legal alternative to these.

In the dorms all over the country, there's a game played with Nerf called "Assassins". The rules change from school to school, but the core of it is pretty much the same. Everyone playing writes their name on a piece of paper. All the names go into a big box and get mixed up. Each player is then given a name, the name of the person they are supposed to assassinate. When you kill that player, you get the name they have, and any names they have from their kills. The one with all the names at the end wins.

When I was living in the dorms in 99, you could still go to any Wal Mart or Kay Bee and pick up some pretty decent guns for it cheap. A couple years ago when my friend started playing, and also playing the LARP variant, guns were starting to get much harder to find. So we did what we could to be the "arms dealers" for a couple schools, buying, repairing, modding, and basically studying the mechanics of every gun we came in contact with.

Between the two of us, we've seen enough guns to understand the mechanics and design of just about every gun, and determine how easy it would be to replicate the internals. My friend is an ex-mechanical engineering major, and during those years worked extensively on nerf guns. I studied prototyping and design and now work with with various grades of plastics, resins, silicones, and urethanes. These guns are going to work good, look good, feel good, and hopefully be able to withstand some heavy usage. Ergonomically, we're still working on designing a shell for the internals of the rifle, but the first thing I'm putting our high powered handgun in is a Namco Guncon shell. I love that thing. After that, heh, anyone seen Gungrave?

And as for blueprints, there's really not much to the rifle. Only 5 moving parts, I believe. Mine is more complicated, but since I can fabricate my own parts out of industrial grade resin, I can improve on exisiting designs and make an awesome gun out of one of Nerf's Failed Attempts.

Oh, and we will also be making more clips for people who play with Powerclips. I'm sure some of you have already modded your Powerclips to have removable clips. We're making more, so you can carry 3 or 4 on you and slap a fresh one in.

Lol it's not a complaint- I can understand where you're coming from, I wouldn't ship either unless it was an opportunity for a huge profit. And I'm not rich enough to pay enough money to give you that profit- if I had that much money, I'd buy this thing.

Whoops! I forgot to tell you about the Weltmaker!

Basically, it started out as a Lightnin Blitz. My friend routed all of the airflow from 5 air chambers into one single breech loaded barrel. By the time he was done with it, you could barely tell what it was, since a good portion of the internals and shell were removed. Packed a punch, but wasn't very accurate after 60 feet. But we don't play long range games anyway, usually it's indoors, 10 feet max, or outside around 20 feet. It's all about dodging, covering, and getting in close for the kill. :w00t:

I don't know how many of you play in tactical squads, but just think of the fun you can have with a couple loser rifles, high powered sidearm, and a sub machine gun sized 10 shot gun with removable clip where all you have to do is pull the plunger back and fire! Clearing rooms and sweeping floors will never be the same!

I'm really interested in that 10-shot clip! Also, for the lightning blitz, I did the same thing as well- getting really really nice ranges, although it requires quite a few pumps... Anyways, I'm probably somewhat incomprehensible, and will be for the next few posts or days possibly.. (still drooling over that armor)

Heeheehee. You guys want cheaper Halo2 armour, huh? I'll have to seriously consider it after my Jin Roh armour project.

Here's my website, btw:

I believe the final pieces are fiberglas or resin. There's a whole prop and amour making process invloved in it, probaly starting with clay and styro prototypes. Personally, I don't like it. It's like putting a $6,000 dollar paintjob on a $200 dollar car. You can see in a lot of pics where he didn't sand the armour pieces enough, and he should have cleaned them up more and made better molds. Should have had a resin prototype, refined it, made new molds, refined that resin proto, and kept doing that until he got perfect molds.

Pretty sure it's plexiglass- also, it seems to be hand-sanded, at least from what I've read and seen. Very nice.

^_^ It's gonna be sweet, but dont' expect it to be a miracle of engineering. Just an improvement over an existing gun, mostly Electric Eel mechanism concepts. Like I said, I'm not the engineer, I specialise in replication, parts fabrication, and design. But I know that once we get the optimal numbers for amount of force, length of barrel, and size of air chamber, fabricate better gaskets and o-rings, it's gonna be VERY fun. I'm more concerned about rate of fire, accuracy, and ergonomics, than distance or maximum power. Just pull back on the plunger and fire, like a pump action shotgun with a clip :P Great for laying down controlled suppressive fire.

Not yet. But our goal is to be able to provide them at prices that the average wargamer can afford. Not like 100 bucks for a crossbow >_< However we will probably have different versions of guns if someone wants to pay 100 for a better one. But basically, we're just trying to keep the sport alive and make guns more available than just on Ebay or garage sales, where you don't know what your getting.

Hey Katachi,

You do understand my skepticism when you promise to deliver on a limited production-able functional Nerf blaster substitute that will be somewhat affordable to the above-average Joe.

But yours is about the closest to reality that I've seen, and the fact that you're not limiting your line of expertise to just Nerf blasters shows that you're not only serious, you're an entrepreneur! (Japanese rock lanterns and robot fish...wow.)

Good luck with the projects, if it goes well, you'll have a lot of happy puppies who will be at your door.

Of course, I wouldn't believe it till I saw it either. The problem though, is that everyone wants to make a semi auto or full auto and spends months and months designing air chambers and can show you all the blueprints they can make, but I've never seen anyone actually make one. When we were working on making our own guns, people kept saying "make full auto! make full auto!" But the more complicated it gets, the less a chance it has of actually working.

Here's what you can do: open up your Lock n Load or Sharpshooter or crossbow. Count the number of pieces required to fire a dart. There's not much too it. We've already improved on what Nerf has given us for a gun, they've deliberately dumbed the guns down because they were intended for kids... Now it's just a matter of increasing size/capacity of parts, getting a better seal, picking better rubbers and resins and fabricating it all over from scratch.

I'm not saying they're gonna be $14.99 cheap like the new Tech Target, which btw is a really solid gun, right up there with the LnL. ROUGHLY, meaning we could afford to make them for at the LEAST, high powered single shot rifle: under 50, handgun: 30ish, repeater w/10 shot clip: 40ish. We're trying to make guns better than the 100 dollar ones, and make them available for people who are SERIOUS about foam wargames. If you're gonna be a causal gamer, pick up a tech target or night sight. This is about keeping the gaming alive and leveling the playnig field so the guy with the most money doesn't always win. ;)

I like hearing that.^_^

Interesting...You guys definetly would have customers. I'm surprised there is actually people out there serious enough about Nerf to build and sell their own versions of guns we love. I mean that in a good way, even though it may not sound it. I was once like that for Airsoft. I designed and built a single 12-gauge gas shotgun round, that would allow any real-steel shotgun to be an Airsoft shotgun. It kinda worked, but not as I expected. I may be able to mod it to go for Nerf, but then it would probably be in 20-gauge or .50, or .410 if I tried. Now I just design crap that my friends make for me, usually because they can test it because they have the equipment to.

I just recently started to focus on airguns. That's how I got back into Nerf after a half-year's break. I was challenged to make a .50 pellet rifle. I gave the person the design and said here ya go, but you have to build it yourself, just sign the waiver and it's your's.

There's my (crappy) story. It's nice to see there are no procrastinaters in the Nerf homemade building division.

one of the biggest reasons we got into it was because it's a legal alternative to piantball and airsoft on University campuses. Big demand, big market. Plus, kids under 18 can buy them. I'd be more into modding paintball guns if it wasn't so expensive.

$60 after shipping. And he doesn't even have a pic of it. For all we know the thing could be pretty beat. Still, I'd be interested to see if it actually sells...
