Having just modded my newly found larami supermaxx 1500 I am having an issue I have never had to deal with before. If I shoot it close range at a target, like a piece of cardboard or styrofoam, often the foam will bounce off, but the weight and hotglue front will be fired straight through the target. I have done this with heavy cardboard and a very dense three inch piece of styrofoam. I am slightly worried about shooting a person and having the foam stop but the weight fly through them, any ideas?

Happens to me all the time when I make a poor batch of stefans. Make sure you make a good glue dome, or else this senario is bound to take place. I noticed that if I was 20' away or less, with my SM5k, the weight would get lodged or pass through the object. However, the farther away you move, the less likely this is to happen, due to air resistance slowing the dart to a point where you can hardly feel it. With good stefans, this should not happen too often, but as darts are used over and over again, the foam melted to the glue becomes weaker and often separates from the glue entirely, make the dart no more than a shell for the weight inside.

I hope this helps.

My ideas for avoiding such a senario? Inspect your darts for imperfections which my lead to premature ageing and wear that will cause the weights to not sit right inside the dart.

Not in the game anymore, but it was great while it lasted. Thanks for the great years of fun, NH!

Shooting at harder surfaces with space behind them (such as a cardboard target) also increase the chance of this happening. The dart and glue impact and continue to go, but the bulky, light-wieght foam just stops. Don't worry about this too much, though. Hitting skin should cause the wieght to stop, due to the density and elasticity of flesh. Sometimes, in flight, wieghts tend to pop out. This just means that is was a poorly made darts, or too much power for it. And that, my friend, is why you wear eye protection.

Make sure you have glue in before and after the weights

I'm positive that your nerf gun won't be so powerful as to have the weight go through them... but watch out for major bruises and broken skin  .

Yeah, life sucks, but it does guarantee a trip around the sun every 365 days.
