So I modified the Raider by removing the air restrictor. By the way, it is my first time modding a Nerf gun. After I removed the air restrictor, I got a lot of range after the modification. But, the problem is that it fires too loudly.

I need help in trying to suppress the noise when firing. I did pad the back of the plunger with felt padding, but it is still too loud. I am open to any tips. Thank you.

(Though some of the tips seem to repeat, but I like input.)

Much of the noise is caused by the empty space in the shell. If you fill that empty space, i.e. with foam backer rod, the noise will go down greatly.

Look at the pictures of silencing in Angel's PAS mod for some ideas of how to do it.

Your best bet is to fill any space that dosent have moving parts with foam backer rod, old tee shirts, or pipe insulation. It really shouldn't be all that loud.

Or practice shooting from the hip, like a boss.

It fires so loud that when I aim down the sights and fire, it kind of makes my ears hurt from the noise.

For a raider, you really don't need to aim down the sights, ever.

You could try to fill the empty space in the barrel section of the Raider.

Padding the plunger should make a pretty big difference; what are you using?

I would as a matter of priority pad your plunger.

The loud cracking is caused by the back of the punger hitting the barrel.
After repeated firing, the plunger may crack and fail, as has happened to so many Recons which use the same reverse plunger system.
After padding the plunger, the noise level will go down.

What material did you use to pad the plunger with? I would recommend using the large felt pads/ bumpers that are used on the bottoms of furniture such as those SG Nerf used in his Stampede mod tutorial.

Also, another consideration would be dart fit. Are the darts that you are using somewhat worn down and messed up? In addition, what code darts are they? The newer and firmer darts (ie "T" "E" and "W" codes I believe) tend to be just slightly larger in diameter compared to the older "K" code darts that actually came packaged with the Raider (at least if you got it right when it came out with the bonus 100 darts value pack). The code of the dart is labeled on the heads/tips of the streamlines by the way. And if you were wondering, nearly all the dart packs (ie the 'Flip Clip', 18 round drum, 16 dart pack) at Target today were all "T" code. For comparison, when I use my stefans in 9/16 brass with your average Nite-Finder (ie spring buff, coupler'd, vacuum loads, etc.), they sound a good deal louder (and don't perform quite as well) as when fired from 17/32 or even 'Charlotte Gold' CPVC.

I used felt pad for the punger. The "T" and "K" darts all sound loud to me. Just saying.
