Hasbro measures maximum ranges by angling the blasters and from what I've been reading angled shots are actually really close to their claims. Anyone with proof feel free to correct or back me.

My rampage shoots 70 feet angled. They were almost right for a change !

Just a heads up about removing the plunger head from the plunger tube - as there is still a shocking lack of threads about the retaliator on the internet - the plunger is easily removable from the plunger tube. You do not need to remove the orange piece or boil anything. I have seen these suggestions in this thread and another, as well as a few vague youtube videos. Just pull the plunger rod to a side when the plunger head is at the back of the tube, the plunger head should pop out if you do this at the correct angle.
