So I just recently got into nerf and the last few days, admittedly, went on a nerf buying spree. The other day, however, I came across something kind of cool...

I wanted a longshot and I found one, when I went to go pick it up, to my surprise, it was red. I had only ever seen them in yellow and blue. Oh well, whatever, paid the lady and I went on my merry way. I did some research when I got home, couldnt find much but found that the red strike guns were only sold at walmart on black friday of 2009.

Now, this leads me to my question. Would I be foolish to use this? I have no interest in collectible nerf guns or having any sort of rare collection, but, at the same time, don't want to risk using/breaking something so rare. Would I be better off picking up another nerf longshot and just keeping this as a show piece?

Also, exactly how rare are these guns? I only saw one on the bay of e for a ridiculous $179. Just seems a bit expensive for a plastic toy gun.

They are quite rare and if it's in good condition I'd keep it just as a display piece. If you wanted to sell it you could get something like $200 for it. Yes it's crazy that toy gun would go for that much, but some nerfers are kinda crazy. Actually, most nerfers are kinda crazy.

I'd say save it and sell it. It's a cool unique blaster but you could buy 4 Longshots for the price of that one.

As for nerfer's buying stuff at ridiculous high prices, at least we're not the Super Soaker guys. Some of the bigger water guns go for $300.

I totally feel the same way, nerf guns only have value to me based on how much fun they are to play with. That longshot is an extremely rare blaster, and the $179 price tag you saw on ebay is truly approximately it's worth. So sell it and use the money to buy a couple blasters with modding potential, some modding supplies and some dart making supplies and you'll have nerfing gear you can actually use.

Out of curiosity, did the longshot come with the front gun and the scope??

Thanks for all of the replies guys! For now I am actually going to keep using it until I get ahold of another longshot (a friend of ours that DIDN'T get into nerf with us has a longshot from when he was younger, selling it for $10 lol). Going to use the red strike for the next few days until I can get ahold of that one.

Yep, came with the pistol/extension as well as the scope. Is that out of the ordinary that it included those parts?

Please tell me you didn't mod it, if you did and you ruined anything on the shell, chips, dremel damage, or stripped screws then you can dock $50 off the price...

You should do whatever you want with it: display, sell, play with, hack up into pieces.

I'm not sure why you would trust anonymous online judgements about your own values as superior.

I would advise you not to really play with it.... because that would equal a more of a chance to break it, don't open up the gun either.. if you are looking to get the most money out of your gun, you can sell it on eBay, BUT.. if you don't desperately need some money, you might want to wait a while before selling it... for these items, usually, the older they are, the rarer they are, the more they sell for.... unless Nerf releases another batch of red blasters....

But anyways you are extremely lucky to get a red long shot.. just remember to take care of it!

Yea Mate, I'd hang that on a shelf with the rest of mine. You picked up one of the other rares next to the crossbow. Keep that in pristine condition and don't even play with it.
I have LS that aren't for sale that are for sale to you because I don't want you playing with that. Keep her pretty for us all!

Great job on the find and all but this has turned into a show off your arsenal thread.

This is barely any better than a 'which gun is best'? thread and somewhere along the lines of 'how should I mod this?'. Personally, I would sell it and use the absurd amount of money you get from some collector to buy a nerf blaster that would actually be of some use to me. But then I like to nerf.

The only nerf blasters that are worthy of being a display piece were painted by an actual artist.
