Sure - we can try a 360 if you bring it. I wonder how insane it could get if there was a nice area in the dead center of the field, with 3-4 respawn points spread out around it. Pop some serious cover near the core, and the defending team would have to deal with being surrounded!

(Not sure if we are going to have enough people to pull that off successfully though. Being surrounded with 1-2 people per side isn't nearly as hectic as 5-10 people per side.)

That's actually a very interesting take on it. Our version, every team has one side of the core to shoot into, so EVERYONE is on offense - get darts into your side while shooting opponents to deny them the opportunity to score points.

But your take on it is unique. Who knows, that might be worth a try!

We periodically sweep for darts, so that we can reuse them. At the end of the day, you usually do one more sweep, put the darts in a pile, and grab the ones that are yours.

To add to what Buffdaddy said: don't expect to get them all back. Plan on losing darts, and stock accordingly. If you use dark foam (or those godawful camo stock darts), you'll naturally lose more than fluorescent.

To add to the dart recovery conversation - it helps if there is some unique way to ID your darts. That can be tough, but some guys dust a certain color spraypaint over the backs of them, or mark the backs with a sharpie or something.

Personally, I just try to get back what I can and not worry about the rest. :D

@ BuffDaddy - sounds great - can't wait to Nerf with you again. Depending on how things go, we might try both DTC styles if you bring yours.

On a tangent - I wanted to note that I will have a few blasters I am looking to sell, so if you bring cash, you may walk away with some new Nerfy goodness. I have an AR removed LS and a stock Magstrike w/ 1 peg-removed clip, and possibly some others.

If you really want one of these and want to claim it as your own prior to the war date and pick it up then, please PM me. However, please refrain from cluttering up the thread with trading discussion.

Aww yeah, Ohio Nerf. ck32 might be coming out too.

The dart restriction doesn't mention anything about silicone darts. I have a small batch that I'd like to test. They're made using Kane's techniques and padded with the same felt pads as my #6 slugs.

Let me hold one, and then shoot me with it (with my permission) and I will most likely allow it. I can't imagine something with silicone and no metal being worse in any way (from a danger standpoint) than a slug.

Don't worry so much about what other people will allow. Throw your own wars and kick your friends' asses until they all want one.

Blasters repaired, darts made, car is packed, and the daughter has decided that she wants to make it there for the beginning...so we're hitting the road at 4:30am. HARDCORE TIME ZONE TRAVEL.

We'll see you guys in the AM.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Boo. Hiss.
(Oh well, a man has to make a living. I will get you here yet!!!)

So you are as wrapped around her finger as I am my own daughters' eh? Sweet.
(I am pretty sure if my oldest was much more than 5, she would be begging to come with me - though that would change the first time she got shot.)

Anyway...

Rise and shine folks. Thankfully, it isn't going to be in the 100's like it has been in the last few weeks, but it is still going to get up into the 80's, and it may be rather humid. Make sure you bring plenty of water!

And don't forget, there are NO RESTROOMS AT THE WAR LOCATION!!!!

Recap Time!

This was an awesome war, and it was really a pleasure to Nerf with such a great group of guys. The attitudes both on and off the field were awesome. Thank you all very much for making my third foray into hosting such an enjoyable time! If this is what I can expect when I sound the call to arms, it will happen again!!!

PROS
-Nerfing with an awesome bunch of guys with great attitudes, competitive spirits and sweet blasters.

-All the youngins having a great time and showing what their energy can accomplish.

-Having more than 1/2 of the founding members of Foam in the Fort present. DarkMatter and his Dad and Dragonsnipe and one of his boys. Missed the rest, but lots of others to take their place!

-Getting to hang with my buddy Carbon again. I'm not saying that he and I make wars great, but we were both at Cataclysm and it was great. We were both at Foam in the Fort and it was great. Coincidence?

-Meeting Phoenix66 face to face, and meeting his crew. Guy does great work on homemades for a great price. Look him up if you need work done.

-Spending another day enjoying the sweetness of my PumpSnap. (And showing off my new hand-painted shamrock and cross logo.) Works great, and as I put a few small customizations into it, it will only get better. (See the above comment for the source of this great blaster...)

-Phoenix66 helping my nephew out with some issues he was having with his own PumpSnap after some hasty repairs that I made were only partially successful. (His younger cousins had damaged it by firing it with the pump-handle only half way back.)

-My wife chatting it up with Phoenix66's mom. Homeschool moms never seem to run out of stuff to talk about, and she really enjoyed the conversation.

-Melee only rounds were awesome. I've taken to referring to melee only elimination as "Highlander", because of course "There can be only one!"

-Scoring the only points in DTC, but still helping my team to win as I scored more than the other team managed to. (See below.)

CONS

-Dart recovery - I think I got maybe a dozen of my own darts back. I am lacking somewhere in the 100's. That's ok though, they were inexpensive, and I can always get more.

-Minor issue with barrel tap / mercy rules at the very beginning. It was handled quickly, and everyone was very mature about the mix-up and the resulting "win" in the CTF round.

-Forgetting my cardboard boxes for making a DTC core and being stuck with three rubbermaid tubs which were bouncing all the darts from our high-powered blasters right back out. (Scoring was still possible, but very hard, as both sides proved!)

-My wife got a sunburn from talking to Phoenix66's mom for so long. If they strike up a conversation next time, I'm going to make her hold an umbrella.

(Recapping the war)

Let's get right to it shall we.

Some good things:
-The drive from Columbus wasn't nearly as long as I thought it would be. Buff and I managed to not only make it there early, but find a couple Raiders at Goodwill on the way for 3 bucks a piece.

-Rounds started on time and continued at an excellent pace throughout the day.

-Ambience is an awesome war host. He kept the war on track, rounds running, and explained the rules of each round very well. He also had a great variety of game types that kept the game fresh. Hats off to you Ambience, you were great.

-Finally meeting Carbon. Such a cool guy and great Nerfer. A highlight of the day: using tactics with him during the VIP round... and it actually working!

-Nerfing alongside ck32 and Buff again for most of the rounds. Ohio Nerf!
... They're also fun to hang out with too, I guess.

-Somehow winning the FFA 3-15 round, despite having an empty hopper and 0 darts on hand when the round started.

-My Bowpup performing like a champ. So many awesome shots and with such accuracy.

-The energy on the field was awesome. Rounds were competitive and fairly evenly matched. Duels with Carbon were great, and ck32 did quite well in the Seize the Balls round. Props to everyone for making it fun!

-The players were all quite courteous and knowledgeable. It's always a fun time to talk with other Nerfers about the hobby.

-Getting a legit tag on someone with my stock Crossbow and an arrow. Lolz.

Some things that could have been improved:
-Melee weapons in non-melee dedicated rounds. I understand that some prefer to use melee weapons when/if they're allowed, and that's cool if the host is okay with it. But those players should understand that they're playing against others that have hoppered, century ranging blasters. If they rush someone with one of these blasters, they should know that they will most likely take a hit for it. I ran into a tiff with a player during the FFA round that wouldn't take my mercy "kill" (discharging a round into the ground to avoid a close up shot). He came from around the tree he was behind afterwards and tried to hit me, so I reflexively shot him. I didn't want to but that's what happened. There's nothing wrong with melee at a Nerf war, but the rules should probably be fleshed out a bit more to avoid stuff like that.

-Someone (not naming who) dry-firing my +Bow, breaking the plunger head polycarb and cracking my plunger tube. I spoke to him about it at the end of the war and he took responsibility for it so I let it go. My expectations at a war are that other players won't touch my stuff without asking, as I didn't without asking them. It's not really that hard to fix, so at the end of the day it was no big deal.

I know I've forgotten some stuff but that's the gist of it. 'Twas an awesome war and I will definitely plan on making the next one if/when it happens. Thanks for a great day of Nerfing Ambience and company!

Recappin' time! All Pros...'cause there weren't any Cons.

*Remembering that Fort Wayne is on Eastern time, and arriving for the beginning of the war. Hooray!
*Beautiful weather...temps in the low 80s, blue sky, and a shaded war site. Perfect.
*Hanging with Ambience once again. Excellent nerfing with you (as always)...even if you were low-impact because you didn't want to break yourself.
*The Ohio crew! Xellah and CK32 are great guys, and a lot of fun to go up against on the field. Excellent shootouts, and very difficult to flank, dammit.
*Buffdaddy's .75" button slugs were fun to go up against...they seemed to work really well.
*The "Bang Rule" generally worked very well. Being able to use high powered blasters + not having to worry about shooting little kids at less than 10 feet = win.
* The FitF series alays has a great mix of ages and blasters on the field. Stock up to plusbows, little kids and their parents, it was all good. Everyone's attitude was great, and there was no problem with taking hits.
*My daughter was very amused/pleased at receiving her nerfing name of Carbonite. She tells me she's keeping it. She had a great time (especially since she took me out during a round).
*Tactics? At a Nerf war? Geddouddahere. ("He can't block two shots at once...ready? 1 2 3 shoot!" "Congratulations.")
*Using my RSCB AT2k for a few rounds, and really enjoying it. OMAGERD CARBON USED AN ACTUAL NERF GUN. I may need to mod up a second and dual wield...
*Discovering that 3:15 isn't all bad! When you've been running like crazy all morning, a more methodical, strategic elimination game is pretty nice. The elimination rounds added a nice twist to the day.
*Rubbermaid DTC = Low scores. Lots of large ammo was in use, but very little of it made it in.
*Seeing my first disc blasters in the wild. They're not going to replace dart blasters, but they definitely have their place.
*Watching a disc from Buffdaddy's blaster casually waft across the field, and somehow manage to float into Xellah. Bonus points given for being a groin shot.
*Taking a hit square on my tragus (look it up). Weirdest sensation aside from the ringing of the ear was that the hit felt like the dart was about an inch in diameter.
*Ambience's boffer mace. That thing was like getting hit with a lightly padded truck.
*Xellah's build of Beaver's bowpup. Looks like a Dali painting, shoots like a champ. Awesome.
*Highlander!
*Crowning Buffdaddy as the new champ of Infection. Sorry if I drooled on you.
*Forgetting the primary rule of a zombie apocalype: if you have a spare moment, RELOAD. Almost managed to pull off a sprinting reload/turn and fire, but just got a simultaneous kill. BRAIIIINS.

Fantastic war, great people....can't wait to make the trip again!

Sweet. I wonder if Flywheel will do the same?

Note to self - 3:15 to be placed near the end of the war.

*Ambience's boffer mace. That thing was like getting hit with a lightly padded truck.

Yeah, I was quite surprised at how much extra impact that little bit of extra foam and duct-tape amounted to.

*Forgetting the primary rule of a zombie apocalype: if you have a spare moment, RELOAD. Almost managed to pull off a sprinting reload/turn and fire, but just got a simultaneous kill. BRAIIIINS.

You almost outran that zombie. You wouldn't have outrun any further zombies that showed up after that though - you looked ready to heave!
