Or you can get Spybot or something. It's like an anal probe for your computer. Not as user friendly as Adaware, though.

The thing to be careful of, though, is some freeware comes packaged with adware/malware/crap, and it won't start without it. Kazaa is an example. Even if you are running Diet K or something, Adaware will pick up "dummy" files that diet K makes so Kazaa will start anyways. The dummy files aren't harmful, they just look like they are to adaware.

i use adaware, and it is great. i never have problems with adcrap anymore and i doesn't mess with my kazza lite. it does however muck up IMESH so you can use that with it. i would recomend it, great prog, just make sure you keep it up to date.

You do know i man-slap anybody who has used, or still uses Kazaa in anyway way, shape or form...
**Man-Slaps N3maN**

On the topic of spyware and such, use something like Norton or Symantec to prevent most virus attacks and Adaware cant be beat for spyware removal and protection....

ON the topic of P2P, as controversial as it is, i suggest you use DC++ available from www.dcplusplus.sourceforge.net .. it cannot be beaten.. Users who fake share, share virii or share illegal or immoral documents [incest, beastiality etc.] will be kick-banned and reported. So pretty much this is the future of p2p...

Here's a download.

I have about three spyware/adware programs, and they seem to get rid of most junk.

I had some spyware on my computer. Adaware is good for light stuff. But, even after the program said there was no spyware, I could clearly see the browser hijackers when I opened Internet Explorer. I tried "Spybot: Search & Destroy". It works a hell of a lot better. It found so much shit on my computer I couldn't believe Adaware hadn't picked it up.

Agreed.

I use Spybot: Search and Destroy. Another good program is "Pest Patrol," though it is not free.

Usually, I run both Spybot and Ad Aware on my computer. Since then, I never really had as much of a problem with spyware. A while back, I bought Kazaa Plus, which works okay, but it seems that the availability of files on there has gotten rather scarce since the RIAA's suing campaign. I have started to use Bit Torrent a little, however I am still getting used to it. Another of my current favorite downloading programs is RipCast, which records streaming internet radio and converts them into mp3's. But I'm getting a little off-topic here. In conclusion, I would go with running both Ad Aware and Spybot.

I tried adaware but it didn't work very well. I have Spybot search and destroy on all three of our computers.

My computer is so fucked up right now, I can't wait to reformat...The sweat smell. That will have to wait until exams are over though.

I do the same as Oruku, I use both Spybot and Ad-Aware. As with most things relating to keeping a PC in one piece, if you truly want to protect yourself, it is foolish to rely on but one program. I use Spybot first, and then Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware usually picks up about 10 times the number of things Spybot does, but Spybot gets things that Ad-Aware ignores. Spybot also "shreds" stuff to, so its like it was never there. If you really want to protect your computer though, I would recommend getting a firewall (I use Norton, and am very satisfied with it), an Anti-virus (again, Norton), both the anti-spam things above, and also if you have Windows XP, turn on your Internet Connection Firewall (you can turn it on under "Network Connections"; I also put my Internet Options to Medium-High/Medium protection/filtering/whatever, and I regularly dump my cookies; finally do Windows Update at least once a week! Just as a general note, keep everything you have updated. Techtv.com (or is it g4techtv.com now?) is a great place to learn about all that stuff; all that is just what I recommend and know from experience.

As far as sharing goes, I just use KazaaLite K++. DC++ takes work to use, and EMule just frustrated me. I would rather access 2+ million people at once than only 50,000. That, and most of the servers worth logging on to require you to have a rediculous amount like 10 or 20 (or more) GBs of shit, but I'm only a casual user.

Finally, in general, I'm not for all that "X sucks dude! lol" (where X is any program) type shit, its just fucking annoying. Find what you like through a dependable source, and roll with it. I've found a lot of people use only one program because its the "cool" or "underground" thing to do, but they only end up getting fucked in the ass cause they tuned out everything else because they thought they were some badass haXor, or what-ever-the-fuck.

So um, yeah.

I know what you mean, but i just completely despise most forms of Kazaa.

Anyway, i just thought DC++ diddled its fake/virus infected ass, but, my bad ...

Onto topic, some programs only perform specific tasks, so as we have assertained, a combination of multiple programs is best for a complete protection suite [if only that was possible]
