I am currently working on an underslung shotgun, and am having some concerns about using a ball valve for air release. I understand it may not be ideal to use, but will it at least suffice? Here is a link that *hopefully* works to attach the photo of my progress. http://pbckt.com/pH.UNZJOi

Ball valve air release mechanisms usually aren't that great, but for what you're doing they should work just fine. As long as the ball valve has somewhat low-torque and you turn it fast it should release all the air quickly.

I would recomend using a brass ball valve, like this: lowes The longer lever lets you to open the valve with more force/speed.

If you don't mind spending $10 to get the best, get a sprinkler valve. You can find them at any hardware store, and you can thread them onto whatever airtank you want.

A sprinkler valve would certainly be the best performing option, and is not unreasonably priced. However. They do require more equipment to actuate and are larger than ball valves. You can choose to install a battery (at least 12 volts, preferably 18v or higher) and switch to power the equipped solenoid, or you could modify the valve to be piloted with a secondary valve such as a blast button.
