I really hate having to post a new thread to ask this, but I've messaged a few people, did a search, did a google search, and still found nothing. Anyways, I need to order some PETG, and the place I used to get it from no longer sells it, and I hear a lot of people talking about McMaster's PETG. The problem is that McMasters wont tell me what the shipping is going to cost until I've already payed for it. I hate when sites do that and I've been screwed on it way to many times to do it again. So have any of you ordered PETG from McMasters in 4 foot sections? How much did it cost for shipping? I'm thinking at minimum 10 tubes, so 40 feet of it.

Not sure about the price of shipping, but i know McMaster has a "special instructions" thing when placing orders. You could have the 4 foot segments cut into 1foot lengths, and that should knock the price down for shipping.

Also, it's worth checking to see how close the warehouse is and doing a will call if the drive isn't too bad, particularly if you're going to get a few feet of clear PVC or something like that. I've paid double the cost of the part on shipping for a longer part.

Okay, I wasn't aware of the "special instructions" option, so thanks. But that still doesn't really help me figure out how much it will cost. I mean if its still going to cost me $15 in shipping, that's too much and I can get it cheaper somewhere else.

It depends on how far away you are from the nearest Mcmaster. I live only 2 hours away and when I last made and order (20 feet of petg, screws, 40 feet of foam, and washers) it was only $6 and it came in 2 days.

They have great shipping rates. I ordered a 4'x2'x2' box of stuff and it was $8.00 shipping.(From Georgia to Oklahoma)

In nearly every order I've placed, I've asked to have various materials cut into smaller segments but none of my requests were honored. Just a heads up. However, McMaster always ships very quickly for me. Even on UPS Ground, I usually received my orders one day later. For the shipping cost, McMaster used a 4' long tube for my nylon rod on my pumpbow order and shipping was only about $7. Keep in mind, I live only 150 miles from the NJ location. I think the shipping on a small order of PETG, even without it being cut into 1 foot sections, would not cost more than $10. But to AZ, I'm not sure if the shipping will increase.

I've seen a few people mention that petg is used in aquariums and can be found at pet stores. Anyone know if you can find the right stuff at a petsmart or something?

Yes, but for that to happen, you have to have ordered already, so all you're doing is seeing how much you'll be charged after they accept the order, but before you receive it.

It's not like you can enter your zip and have it say, "Shipping to zip code nnnnnn-nnnn will be X dollars."

Well I have sent them an email just recently to see how much shipping was and I had not ordered yet.

I ordered ten, 4' sections that cost me a little over $13, and it took 2 days to get to Phoenix from their warehouse in CA via UPS. The total for shipping ended up being only $6. They shipped it in a large box that could've fit 10x what I ordered, but it was still only $6. So overall it ended up being less than $20 for 40 feet which is a smoking deal at less than $.50 a foot.

So if you're going to order from McMaster, its a good idea to find out how far from the nearest warehouse you are before ordering. Also, don't waste you time with the "special instructions" box, they completely ignore your requests to cut the tubing down, and now I have to sit down with a hack saw and do it myself. So now you know what to expect when ordering PETG from McMaster!

Glad to hear it worked out. How does the dart fit compare to the PETG you've gotten from elsewhere?

Well I had the order sent to work where I am now, and I wont be able to let you know until I get home, so I will be sure to do that as soon as I can. But as far as I can tell, its identical to the stuff I used to buy from taerKitty.

If I may make a suggestion, as long as you can find piping/rod that will fit inside your PETG (1/2" dowel rod works great), you can still use your pipe cutters and do a clean cut. I've done this with both barrel material and 1" PETG. It's ok if it's not a snug fit, the main idea is stopping the PETG from flexing so that you can make a clean cut.

That's a neat idea, I might try that, seeing as I have a lot of cutting to do. Haha.

I, too, have bought some of this tubing before and can add my opinion. In regards to shipping, buying in larger quantities at a time seems like a better idea to me because of the oversized box they shipped mine in. I measured it with my digital caliber and its ID was .535 and OD was .565. I've been reading various other threads about PETG in the past and read that "the good stuff" is .528 ID and .573 OD. I think McMaster tubing is pretty good stuff.

Yes, the PETG I bought measures at .528. I just got home and I've been sticking darts in it to see the fit. Now keep in mind, I use primarily modified Streamline darts, but the PETG has a pretty good air gun fit. Just barely snug enough so the dart wont fall out of the barrel. And you can shake it a bit and it wont fall out. In comparison to the PETG I used to get, its identicle. Good stuff, I recommend getting PETG from McMaster, but like Naturalman said, I would order large quantities. I ordered 40 feet, which to me isn't a large amount. Next time I order, I will probably get at least 100 feet.

ive ordered 6 feet of PETG from McMasterCarr and the shipping was 18 dollars. shipping might be 3 times the price you actually paid for the tubing

The PETG we're talking about isn't actually PETG tubing at all (at least based on what McMaster calls it) it is actually just a plastic tube 2044T43, which only comes in sections 4 feet long. You may have gotten the thicker 6' actual PETG from McMaster. Shipping will be better if you order larger quantities to take up all the extra space in the box they ship it in.

When I use a pipe cutter on PETG, I wrap a AAA battery in masking tape until it fits snugly insde the PETG, then use the cutter for a clean cut.
