I replaced my Longshot's plunger head with a hereticorp/CS style plunger head. The plunger head and plunger tube were both lubed with white lithium grease from Liquid Wrench. When I first fired it, ranges were 90-100 feet. But within five shots, the range had dropped ten or fifteen feet. When I opened it up, I found that the rubber washer seal was TOO good: It had pushed all of the lube down to the end of the plunger chamber. The lube had also bunched up around the rubber washer. I don't want to revert to an O-ring seal, but I'd prefer not to open the Longshot every five shots and cover the shaft in lube. Has anyone else ever encountered this problem?

I didn't think pictures were necessary by the way I described it, but if anyone needs to see them let me know.

P.S.- If it really matters, I'm running an AR-15/LS spring combo.

I would work the plunger head though the plunger tube ( Giggity) and remove all the excess lube on the plunger head with a napkin and repeat until you are getting a good seal. When I say work the plunger I mean take it out of the shell and push and pull the plunger head in the plunger tube.

Petroleum Jelly, AKA Vaseline, work well for lube.

Actually Vaseline will eat away at plastic and rubber overtime.

jackrabbit is right. Petroleum based lubricants cause rubber to swell, ruining your seal completely.

I don't exactly remember, but is that the one with the blue background? If it is that's the wrong kind. You wanted silicone grease, the one with the red background. I've made the mistake of using the blue one. If you read the back, it's not safe for either plastic or rubber.

Of course, you can use a different brand, but you must make sure that it is silicone grease. Anything else can be potentially bad for the plastic and rubber parts (most notably petroleum-based lubricants) that make up your blaster. Try to wash the lithium grease out, replace the rubber seal, and try again with the proper lubricant.

I'll second this. I had it suggested to me by Beaver (of the awesome rainbow catch design). It works marvelously.

I am so screwed. How long until vaseline starts to corrode the plunger tube? I've only been using it for a few weeks now in my blasters, I've still got time to swap it out, right?

And regarding the whole topic of this forum: I've found my longshot to already have an amzing seal. What I normally just do is cut a length of e-tape the thinness of the o-ring and put about 2 layers beneath the o-ring. I typically get a near perfect seal.

Only thing I completely disagree with is the use of mineral oil; I use that for all my blasters and it's fine. The stuff in goo gauges, and note that the liquid is contained by a very thin rubber washer, is mineral oil with probably food coloring.

I use lithium grease from the brand Lucas Oil. It has been working perfectly fine for me for like 6 months now. No corrosion or anything. It comes in a blue tube, and I got it at home depot.
