To reply your problem, did you cut out enough plastic to get the barrel assembly removed? Pics may help, if possible.

I've worked on a mod like that, except mine uses eight powerful magnets to hold it on.Well the way I modded my RF20 was by removing all the screws that hold the barrels on. Then, by replacing the one in the front with a hook, all I have to do is just unscrew the hook to replace the barrels. The rotating piece (the barrel backs) then stays in tha gun at all times. No cutting of the body, but it takes longer to replace barrel assemblies.

Magnets? That was a brilliant idea. Too bad I stopped using the RF20. I even took the pump out and used it to replace my super soaker pump. Now I have an SM1500 pump on the RF20. Sucks like no tomorrow.
