So I've been considering modding my Longshot (duh). I've done some research into it so I don't muck it up the first time, and what I've gotten from it is that you can take out the AR, plug the air release hole, and add more/stronger springs (and have to add padding). Is it possible to just remove the AR and plug the hole with some duct tape without the spring mod, or will I end up breaking my prized loser rifle in the long run?

This is MY NERF gun. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

As a modder, we all have the ability to choose what mods we put into our blasters. That said, you can remove the AR, plug up the hole, and most likely you will not break your longshot. However with the AR removed, I suggest you pad the plunger tube and do a stock block mod. Otherwise you will have a very loud longshot, and it will also put a lot of stress on your tube because it is a direct plunger tube. Now if you are doing that, you might as well do a spring mod, it is not hard and with the padding, you won't have to worry about the issues I mentioned in the previous sentences.

Yes, you can SIMPLY AR and hole plug it. I did that to one, and it got about 35'. That's what I do to most of my blasters the first time around. I play with them a bit, see how much I like them, then do a "reconaissance mod", in which I AR it, look at what springs will fit, maybe improve the seal, see what else I could do, find weak points that may need reinforcement, pad the PH, and so on. Eventually, I'll open it up again and do some more extreme stuff to it, and then I'll probably be done with it. Do the simple stuff first, stuff that won't be likely to require debugging or trouble shooting.

If you improve the spring strength, then it will be more likely to break without proper barrels or padding. But, if you keep the stock spring, pad the PH, and improve the seal, then there is very little chance that you will destroy the blaster.

You must reinforce the boltsled if you are going to do any spring additions.

While this is a good idea for more serious mods that involve highly upgraded springs, if this is your first or one of your first mods chances are you'll probably just use whatever you have lying around. I believe i put the spring from a broken Recon in my first Longshot. Along with the stock spring it improved the performance but it was still easy to prime and i never had a bolt sled problem. I am all for beefing up your bolt sled if it needs it but don't waste your time if what you decide to do doesn't call for it.

Since everyone else said everything I would say I have a question for anyone who will answer. My longshot will not catch. The center bolt (the one where the spring goes around) hits the catch mech then just stops and the catch won't budge when the gun is closed. Please someone help.
