Intro
If TL:DR, skip to materials.
So, while looking at one of my many broken mavericks with the normal terrible ranges next to my 70ft shooting NF, i wondered if i could make a Maverick as effective as a NF.
3 attempts later (and a completely broken recon - 20lbs of spring force into a reverse plunger is not good -) i think i maye have cracked it.
This is something that will be continually updated - especially if i decide to make custom internals.

Materials & Tools
1x Maverick
1x Recon bolt assembly
Assorted springs
Extra O-Ring
Teflon tape
Hot glue
Deadspace filling foam
Electrical tape
Hacksaw
Dremel (optional)
3" 17/32 brass
1/2" 1/2 brass (optional)
Materials from substitute priming mech (optional)
Writeup
Get your stock maverick and open her up.
Remove the turret, the rotation mech, and cut along the shell along the blue line, just where the turret holding arms meet the main body of the shell.
Posted Image

Leave in this part of the rotation mech to stabilise the trigger and replace your main springs / catch spring.
Posted Image

Cut the recon along the main seam, leaving the part that is normally inside the plunger tube - about 3" long. Put on your new O-Ring and add teflon tape if needed to give the best seal your springs can manage in the maverick plunger tube (mine is about 80%). I put a thin layer of hot glue on the back of the Maverick plunger tube to help with breakages and give some precompression.
Posted Image

Sand down your 3" of 17/32 brass and insert it inside the recon bolt so it fits along the whole length without poking out of the back. You may have to sand the brass first - or the inside of the bolt to get it to fit. Glue it in securely - i used Gorilla Glue.
Posted Image

Put the Maverick plunger tube back in the blaster and insert the recon bolt so it pokes out of the shell. Fill deadspace with foam and then add the other shell cover.
Posted Image

Reassemble the blaster and secure the recon bolt to the outside of the maverick shell with hot glue (or epoxy if you're feeling uber cool) to stop the bolt moving. A streamline dart should just come up to the lip of the bolt for reference.

Ranges are about 50ft with screamers and about 55-60 with stefans FLAT.

EDIT: i added a 1/2" stub of 1/2 brass into the 17/32 barrel (inserted only 1/4") to give a better grip on my screamers and taggers.

Why did you waste a perfectly good Maverick and Recon just to achieve Nitefinder ranges? The mod might be kind of cool if you kept the turret, but instead you are trying to reinvent the Nitefinder.
This blaster would cost at least three times as much as a Nitefinder too, though it would have a reverse plunger and a worse seal.

On a slightly more positive note, if you do have both a broken Maverick and Recon this mod might be remotely useful.

It isnt meant to be a replacement for the NF, its just if people - like me - have the parts just lying around doing nothing, you may as well turn them into a blaster that is remotely useful rather than just a pile of junk.
However, the zero deadspace means that i reckon i might be able to get even more ranges if i do a 'powerstock' of sorts - watch this space :)

If that's the case, I would recommend a slightly longer, removable barrel to take advantage of every cubic inch of air this thing puts out. That might add five feet to your ranges, though you would have to experiment a bit in order to find your optimal barrel length.

Thats why i added a 2 inch 1/2 brass barrel. Im also experimenting with a 6" 1/2 brass barrel.

Ha, you don't get it do you. This is a fantastic mod for if your turret breaks or gets lost. Yea it might not be the best mod with a functioning turret, but it shows versatility.

So shut up with the sarcasm.

This is good, I't is a nice example of a spare parts bin gun, and I would recommend replacing the plunger with a scout plunger for more draw, I don't know if the springs would compress tough, it depends on dour gun, also take of that hot glue, sand the back of the pt, and epoxy on a suitable side washer, this will prevent breakages (to a degree) if you replace the plunger, reinforce behind the catch notch, with e-putty, or epoxy.

I don't understand why you used a recon plunger head/bolt with the msverick plunger tube. Why not just use the maverick plunger head/bolt piece and dremel it out until you could internally nest the brass inside?

That cut on your hand looks kind of infected too.

Yes you are right. It is definitely creative to sacrifice two blaster with combined triple street value of the blaster you are replicating in internals and functionality.

My maverick plunger head broke so i used it as it was a good fit, also 17/32 brass fits nicely in it, and it nicely holds a whole dart - again it was just lying around.

All these parts were just lying around doing nothing. The mavericks original turret has been used to make a double maverick, the recon has custom made internals.

Your a little late to the party. Read the rest of the thread.

Please no more discussion of how completely useless this mod is. The only thing less worthwhile than this mod is allowing it to remain at the top of the mods forum.
