I am really confused about the different models and respectively different packagings of the Nerf Vulcan. Nerf Wikia says there are two different models. The old one that came out in 2008 was packaged with the description "The Largest Full-Auto Nerf-Blaster"

while the new model (which nerf.wikia.com says has a higher range and better reliability) is packaged with the description "Full-Auto Belt-fed Blaster".

I got my Vulcan from ebay and the article-photo clearly showed the new version ("Full-auto Belt-fed Blaster). When I received my package a couple of days before I realized that package-wise I got something different from both two versions mentioned above. I got the following:

As you can see the package has the description of the old version ("The Largest Full-Auto Nerf Blaster"). But aside from the old description my packaging clearly shows the new Vulcan model. While the old version of the Vulcan had a slightly but noticeable longer barrel my vulcan already has the shorter barrel just as the new version. The ammo belt of the old version didn't have this green dummy-shell at the end. My Vulcan already has the green dummy shell and you can see this green dummy shell on the backside of the packaging. The pictures on my packaging seem to exactly match the new model. The only thing confusing me is the fact that my packaging is slightly different from the known packaging of the current model that Hasbro has on its website(Full-Auto Belt-fed Blaster). Comparing the Front-Sides and Back-sides of all three packagings it seems that I have the new model of the Vulcan but it is packaged in a third packaging variation. Does anyone know this packaging? Can anyone cleary say that my Vulcan model is definitely identical to the "Full-Auto belt-fed Blaster"-model?

I am really confused right now and would really appreciate any help! This question is really important to me because I definitely want the best stock model of the Vulcan (I know you can mod this big-daddy in almost every way).

I really can't wait anymore to get this big fat gun out of the box but until I got confirmation that my model of the Vulcan is identical to the current model (full-auto belt-fed Blaster) I won't open the box.......

1. Where did you hear these claims? If it's anything like the umpteen other guns with several generations (LS, Recon, NF), then the range and power difference is something like a foot or less (read-no difference).
2. You have a stock Vulcan and you're afraid of inferior blasters....yeah.
3. Your link is not loading. If it's a picture, upload it to a photo sharing site and embed it with the appropriate tags.

tl/dr: This is a non-issue: play with your toy! If you see major issues, you can consider modding it or, you know, getting a nerf gun that's actually reliable and powerful.

Just edited the initial post. Now you can clearly see the packaging-differences. The third Link is my package and I would like to know if anyone here has seen this package before and can confirm that the Vulcan model is the same as the one that is packaged with the "Full Auto Belt Fed Blaster"-packaging.

Its a Vulcan. There really isn't any performance difference in the models. Especially if you plan to mod it at all, it really does not matter which one it is.

Different generations of box art, nothing more. After the initial release, Nerf might have gotten calls about the belt being a pain to deal with and decided to change the "25 Darts and Ammo Belt" to "Easy-Load Ammo Belt and 25 Darts" to attract parents more. They're more inclined if they don't have to help their kid load the toy each time. And you're able to store the darts in the belt without a problem.

Again, just a guess as to why it's different. I wouldn't worry about it though unless you notice something not working correctly the first couple of times you fire it off.

Catastrophe, basically you said that while your given reasons for the different box art are your personal guess it's a FACT that my Vulcan and the newest Vulcan-model ("Full-Auto Belt-Fed Blaster"-packaging) are completely identical, right?

The only thing that changed from your Vulcan to the ones sold now is the artwork style to bring it in line with the other NERF blasters, such as having the Shield for the N-Strike logo and the text having a different styling.

Catastrophe, your last comment just tore down the last barrier between me and my Vulcan and I'll gladly rip it out of its packaging this evening (after 4 weeks of having it actually at home and not daring to get it out of the box because of my doubts)!

Hi all,

You have the newer version definitely.

I have heard that as well as the shorter barrel, it also has an improved clutch on the belt feed mechanism which is less prone to slipping.

I have only heard that from another modder, but he's totally into Vulcans and knows heaps about them.
