Hey y'all.

I had an idea of making an actually functional NATO style mag using an old 6 rd clip as a base.

I see no problem in the design except the end that feeds into in my case a Recon.

Yes, this is a horrible rendering. But all you really need to fit in the gun is the part above the ridge. Replace the bottom, and have a functional banana clip (finally!)

Here are some mockup images, built around the aforementioned 6 rd clips.

The short 8 rd mockup

And the long 18 rd mockup

This is what I mean with the above "problem", namely the (in)ability to fit a homemade mag into a stock blaster.

More to come.

It would actually be more complicated than you think, because the part that advances the darts in the clip has to be perpendicular to the walls of the clip. That isn't such a big deal until you think about the fact that in the curve the darts will actually squish each other because they will be closer at the tips than at the ends (think spokes on a wagon wheel).

Unless you found a way to keep the darts horizontal, you would be much better off just using a larger clip like the one from the stampede...

Why doesn't the clip fit? You haven't gone and done anything to alter the contact points have you?

You put duck tape and sharpie on a nerf mag, and now for some reason it doesn't even work anymore. Congratulations.

The reason why a Magazine curves is because of the difference in thickness of a bullet from the brass to the tip. It improves feeding and reliability. Nerf blasters don't need it because streamlines are (mostly) the same size. However if you've ever looked at some of the older buzz bee blasters (clip tek or whatever it's called, I have one in my car but I'm to lazy to go get it) the clip was curved because it had to accommodate for the use of sucker darts (of course it's still a horrible blaster that jams every other shot, but still a cool concept).

TL;DR - A banana clip will do nothing for streamlines and is an overly complicated and unnecessary design unless you really want to be tacticool.

The Nerf Dart Tag Quick 16 also has a curved clip, but it curves backwards to accommodate the fact that taggers are wider at the head than the tail.

I think it still works, but the "design problem" is that it's not a real gun so it has the extra bit on top that a real clip/magazine wouldn't have. I donno, maybe I'm overthinking it.

So your intention was realism... on a Nerf Forum... Wait... Really?

This just isn't worth the time you would spend making it. First, duct tape and cardboard are not going to make a strong, or even functional clip. The dart pusher would have to be curved to fit in the bannana clip section, making it unable to transition to the straight walls of the 6-clip. In other words; Impossible.

As far as I can tell, this thread should've ended here^

There are plenty of other magazine options if you're looking to increase capacity, including this double mag mod and these custom made mags not to mention the 18 round mag that comes with the stampede and the various drum mags. If you're just looking to make the magazine on your nerf gun look more 'realistic' then you're in the wrong place.

Blue, I had my mags sort of painted, and as mentioned in the OP this is only a mockup for handling. And these mags work fine, BTW. It's the gun that blew the plunger head.

What I mean by homemade clips, which would go into Homemades is that NONE of the clip is stock. In this case everything above the ridge is kept stock, therefore maintaining contact points intact.

Yes, the darts will be crushed a bit, that's why this is only a NATO style curve, and nothing as drastic as let's say an Automatika Kalashnikova Model 1947, or AK47.

Hamoidar, read the OP entirely. The pictures state that they are a mockup. Plus if the pusher plate could not transition, the. why does the AR15 and NATO standard mag work? Same idea, different material.

BTW, sorry for replies in one post, I'm still an FNG as of right now.

Are you trying to make you're clip capacity bigger? Because putting cardboard and duct tape all over it won't help you.
it doesn't look cool, either.

Simple solution. Go, save yourself the $20 in materials, and buy one of these.

http://www.target.co...18/-/A-12226657

You get an 18-round drum clip that isn't too obtrusive, fugly and, as a BONUS you get another clip-fed blaster as an integration base, concept gun or simply a parts scavenger!

I can't buy another gun, don't need the parts scavenger, and don't want to save $20. And I'm transitioning to full on pellet guns and Enfield .22's. Also, the clip does work this way. Look up STANAG magazine. It has a straight and a curved section. IT WORKS. DON'T TRY THAT FLAME.

This cracks me up. I was talking about how much that ripping apart LS magazines could cost you trying to make them have a greater capacity by modeling them after the STANAG design. I wasn't flaming, I was providing a valid idea around it since it's already a mass-produced item.

And another question. If you're transitioning to air rifles and .22's, why do you not just buy one and go shoot rather than get into a proverbial pissing contest with me over whether or not that this would be feasible?

If your going to talk any more about realism and airsoft please leave. This is a NERF forum not MilSim kinda stuff. Banana clips don't workn for the exact reason everyone has said. The darts aren't meant to bend like that since they have the core of the heads. You could make a stefan clip but you would run into the same problem.

I'm still not sure what you're even trying to do. If you're trying to make a nerf magazine that curves, just to look realistic, you're not going to get any help with that here. If you just want to argue about how actual firearms work, you're definitely in the wrong place. Plenty of higher capacity alternatives to the 6 round mags have been posted here, which is really the only part of this thread that is in any way relevant to this forum. Thread closed.
