Jeez. I'm not even going to say anything on how aggressive you guys are to newcomers, because I know that's necessary in some instances. Anyways. Introductions.

The name's Ross, and I'm one of those people who would rather play than organize games, although he's usually stuck as the organizer because nobody else ever bloody does anything. Having just moved to town, I haven't seen anything concerning Nerf or it's ilk in the area of Charleston, South Carolina, although I heard about one of the high schools running a game of HvZ. As such, I'm going to try my hand at the organization and running of a simple War this month, having a small ~10 HvZ game previously in my old town.

Throw the book at me.

Current plans are to run it in a few weeks, as a three game, without previous permission from the park. Should I get permission? Is that just opening a can of worms that I don't want to deal with?

The kit will be bright blasters, with a ~100 to ~200 dart count. I'll be bringing tape and markers to mark blasters, seeing that I don't expect very many people to show up.

Gamemodes- damn, I don't even know where to start, although half an hour of brainstorming would probably net some entertaining scenarios. What should I aim for here? Are there any conventional gamemodes that aren't CTF or Team Deathmatch?

In any case, I've got a moving box full of nerf darts and an itch to use them, and now I've got the place and ambition to do it. Drop any tips or tricks, advice and recommendations, that you want to my way. This will hopefully be the start to a glorious run of wars. And possibly games that aren't exactly wars, perhaps more... simulation. Not milsim, no... post-apoc settings don't exactly lend themselves to military getups, eh?

Thanks, guys. And hello, by the way.

You may want to PM rork, last I checked he is in your neck of the woods---and is an outstanding war host and Nerfer.

Having said that, most SE Nerf wars of late have been hosted in Georgia, Florida, and Tennesee---so contacting Nerfers from those states may help you pull a war together.

I don't have any problem with people asking for help hosting their first war, or looking for other nerfers in their area provided that they follow the other rules of the board. Since there isn't anything glaringly obvious already going on in SC that you could've found with a search, I don't see any problem.

Anyway, This article is a little dated, but it's still a must-read for anyone hosting a war. The New Nerfer Guide from the wiki may also help, as far as the basic rules. I would suggest just sticking with 3-15 for your first war, maybe do some Defend the Core or some other infinite-respawn objective game. Keep your first war simple.

I wouldn't ask permission to use the park. As long as you're keeping it relatively small, and stay out of the way of bystanders, no one will complain and the police will leave you alone.

As for planning the war, don't expect to schedule something and get much of a turn-out from people on the forums who live in your area. Maybe there are enough NH membersin your area, maybe not. If not, plan to bring enough of your own friends (4 people is enough for a decent war).

Oh, and I edited your subtitle for you, since you're still an FNG. SC is a big state, you probably want to let people know what area of SC you're in right in the title.

Aye, the intention was to keep it more invitational at the moment, to a group of teenagers in my area. As such, thanks, Langley. I'll stick around and see if anything in the neighboring states pops up, but the type of game I'm considering wouldn't really apply out of state- I doubt anyone would drive even an hour to attend the first game of a new guy, until it's actually going well.

Thanks for the links, they shall be read thoroughly. I'd still like to know concerns that pop up regularly as an organizer in game that I can possibly prepare for. You know, stuff that you wouldn't expect to have to face going into it for the first/second time.

You may want to PM rork

Or you could ask me since I live in SC. Have you heard from Rork recently BTW? I have been more than a little curious on where he has been. ;D

Yeah, I live in the capital. However, Not a lot goes down up here. I would just suggest waiting until another GA war comes out, go to it, meet some people, then host a war. Peope tend to go to wars of people they know. Nice that there is another SC nerfer. Welcome!

Just stopping by to let you guys know that the game went well. My friends had a blast, and I've been asked to make it a regular event. Thanks to everyone for the advice and relevant links. Maybe I'll host a larger war at some point in the future.
