Okay, this will sound stupid, but I can't figure out how to search a thread for all posts by a given user.

The thread in question is the Mod/PJ thread. I'm looking for all of a given user's posts to show a friend his quality of work. I don't know of a particular 'thumbprint' for only his posts, or even one that is common to all his posts. Searching within a thread by a phrase doesn't match against usernames, only against text in the posts themselves.

Does this version of the forum support that type of search?

I feel stupid, but then tried it and it's not giving me all his posts. The user in question in 'Broderick' (hi, B!) - clicking on the gear did bring me to a search form that allowed me to search by user, but it's the forum-level search. Even limiting it to 'modifications' didn't allow me to search only the Mods/PJ thread - it gave me all threads he replied to in the Modifications forum.

I'm beginning to think this isn't a supported scenario, but I've not admined this back-end to be sure.

You're right, it isn't behaving as expected. You should be able to:

1. Limit your search to the mods forum
2. Enter the complete title of the thread in quotes
3. Click "search titles only".
4. Enter the author name
5. Click show as posts.

Something that seems to be a problem is the slash in the mods thread title. If you try do do a search for "Modifications/Paintjob" in the title, it comes back telling you that it could't find "modificationspaintjob"

I'm also noticing that I seriously need to update my search how-to. I haven't looked at the new search tools since the forum got updated.

Kitty, not to offer the simplest solution, but where are you searching from?

If you use the search bar while you are in the thread, and search their user name, iI believe it works. (I just searched my own name in the Mod/PJ thread and it brought up all of my entries.)

EDIT: This is strange, Broderick does indeed yield no results, but you are searchable Kitty, and every mention also. So not a perfect solution.

It's most likely pilot error, then. Apologies for the wasted bits.

Yeah, frankly the search function on this version of IPB sucks. There are a few changes from 2.x that just don't make any sense to me, and either due to the upgrade path or other factors, NH is getting a little buggy. I mostly use google with the "site:" keyword. Anyway, I changed the name of the thread to remove the slash, if that helps.
