[Dart Ops]

I have a sports Arena where gamers shoot each other with dart tags. I want to introduce Vortex blasters and is trying to find a way to put velcro linings on the side of the velcro discs so that they stick on the vests of gamers when they get shot. Any ideas on how this can be done? Check out our sports Arena at Dart Ops so that you have an idea on how our games go. Thanks for any help.

Quick word of advice, most people don't like noobish noobs.
This is also a "help me" thread. Why don't you make a prototype of a disc with velcro glued to the rim of the disc, put it through a few shots, then tell us how well it worked?
And I know that searching didn't help you, bucause no one's tried this before, so good luck.

I have yet to buy my own vortex blaster yet so I'm not 100% sure how they work but what if you trimmed down the normal discs so that once you add the velcro they are back to normal width? Just a idea...

Fuck you. This guy has a pretty legit setup. All he wants to know is if you can get a praxis to shoot things that stick to the pretty cool targets he has.

Unfortunately, the answer is "not really" for a number of reasons:
- Imagine attaching velcro to a frisbee, but for scale considerations, this velcro has 3" hooks and is at 1/2 the weight of the frisbee
- The frisbee is launched with an impact hit that wedges through tight space with a wheel that spins against the frisbee to impart spin

Looks like you have a really cool set up. unfortunately like Zorn said the vortex discs are pushed through a wheel that puts the spin on them, so either the discs wouldn't fit through the opening or if you sanded then down before putting the velcro on then the velco would get crushed and smashed and most likely not stick anymore. That's just my guess though from thinking about the mechanics of the vortex guns. You are welcome to try it and let us know what happens.

Alternatively since it looks like you monitor all the games, you could simply watch and call out hits with discs, or go by the honesty policy when using discs.

All right. That was kinda dickish. I'm sorry. It's a nice idea, and it is a fair question.

I'd look at the homemade discs, and look at mods to the stock discs, those seem to be your only options. And hey, if you manage to make cheap and easy to make homemade discs of your own design, good job.

Another thing to consider: (Assuming that in any way adding velcro is possible) The disk is spinning, so the abrasive velcro may cause injury when moving that way.

I don't have any ideas for making velcro work, but if you guys play defend the core an easy way to introduce vortex blasters would be to make the cores "disk only". It looks like you're using stock blasters, which might create an interesting defense situation since the defenders will have to get a lot closer to the attackers to prevent them from scoring. I donno, just a thought.

Mwa I don't think that would be an issue, the disks have waaaay to litlle mass to really "damage" skin..... I assume all the players wear eye protection?

Also the disks do need to be "trimmed" a bit to fit (Zorn and nerfnoob said), but once you found a way of securing the velcro (wich would be a real P.I.T.A.) to the disk it might even perform better...... no guarantees, I haven't got the finances to get a disk shooting blaster yet.......

You could try slightly sanding down the outside if the disks, then super glueing on cut off pieces of tagger dart velcro. I will try to show you what I mean when I get time sometime in the next few days (probably Tuesday).

The problem is with vest compatibility and cost. Generally the spiky part is on the projectile because it's far smaller and cheaper.

I also tried making these discs.I used some random cheap Velcro from the OSH puck LED lights, and trimmed 1.5 layers of foam (on average) off my disc.

Sticking onto things? Fine. Firing performance? Maybe. My disc didn't load right in the Vigilon due to the hooks sticking out and increasing the diameter, but once compressed it fired fine. Proton works awesome.

Not fun to be hit by though. Nowhere near a hot glue dome in terms of pain, but it's like you scraped that point with your fingernail about five times. No blood drawn or anything, but you can see a mark. And a faceshot will be nasty.

Tagger dart-style velcro, the kind with smaller hooks, may hurt less. I'm really iffy about sticking velcro on anything flying in the first place, dart tag darts are fine because it's just a flexible plastic surface hitting you directly, the same as the dart head. But the difference between sandpaper and foam coating the disc is pretty major.


If you plan to mod stock discs, I don't see what people are saying about sanding. It's foam. Just go at it with a knife and filet a bit off the edge.
