If you are going to single it then you can put some couplers together to equal the size of the black piece.

YES make a new one, but try to cut it properly so that the spring rest doesn't stop the travel of the plunger rod. You don't want to hear the snapping of plastic if it breaks...

I don't get what you are saying here, there's no way that you could make it so it doesn't stop the plunger rod travel.
