I ask this because it says that I can view my "display name history" on my profile.

It used to be possible to request a change (and you can still request it, but it won't be done) until someone used that to get out of having negative feedback. I don't remember who it was though... Pretty sure they got banned.

You are correct. Admins/Mods were granting name changes left and right, and most of them were to members who had accrued a deservedly poor reputation. I never approved of the practice, but it took a few notable cases for me to articulate that disapproval in the form of a policy.

We do not grant name changes. Now, of course, there will be special circumstances where the change is neccessary or waranted. You can PM me and state your case, but if it's not particularly persuasive be prepared for scornful mockery and potentialy abusive behavior. Upon writing the previous sentance I imediately got a pm which remonded me that such vaguery was a mistake. No fucking name changes. Don't worry, there will be other opportunities for "scornful mockery and potentialy abusive behavior".

It was possible to do it manually (at least from what I did) as when I signed up my default Display Name was my login name. I was able to change that under the old software that forum used. However now that doesn't appear to be the case.
