I'll check out number 10's, but 1/2 inch felt wouldn't cover the entire thing, right?

I've done some testing in the past, and 3bbs seems to be the minimum weight for megas to fly decently. I found an old post of cap. slug's which says that #8 washers are .8 grams, and that seems to be between 2 and 3 bbs, so they might work. Gluing 1 thing instead of 3 would be easier.

↓ Yeah, the only advantage to me is that they're fun to shoot. I'll try them with the #8's though, or just go with micro's.

I have to agree with Derek here. I think 3 bbs is quite an acceptable weight for megas. You figure bbs only weigh around 0.3-0.4 grams each. As long as they are properly padded, presumably with a 1/2" felt discs, it should be fine. For comparison, #10 washers (91083A01) are just over a gram each and are 1/2" diameter, so you wouldn't be able to use 1/2" felt discs, otherwise they'd be considerably more dangerous than traditional slugs.

You could also just use a slingshot weight, which is also just about 1 gram. I believe that's what Beaver used to weigh his a few years ago, and they still flew 30-40' less than normal slugs.

People in the Midwest have used megas before, and they've never caught on. I don't think they have any advantages over "micro" darts we use now.

EDIT:Is anyone going to be bringing extra ammo that anyone can use? I have to order washers and felt for my own ammo still and im not sure if it will be here in time for me to have rounds ready for the war.

okay the stuff I needed showed up way faster then I thought- I should be able to have 500 or so darts ready by the war- at least im hoping I will get the free time at some point soon- my work is almost 8 days a week now. also I will look into possibly getting craft foam for even cheaper then at walmart(i have family craft connections) and see if I can supply enough darts for an entire war out by my house or at another park somewhere around the twin citys. idk- time will tell.

Derek/Ryan: Good point. Go ahead and weight them as you choose, Derek. Just make sure that they are safe and adequately padded. #10 washers would be ideal in my mind, just because it's consistent with the regulations for micros. As far as making tips that fit #10 washers, a punch set and craft foam can do the job.

Archangel: We should be able to spot you some darts. It is possible to make acceptable darts with only locally available supplies, which is usually what I do. Read my posts in this topic about using craft foam tips.

This goes out to everyone. I know a lot of you don't bother making darts much of the time, but it is really lame when a war falls apart because there aren't enough darts. Last SPANO was awesome, much of it was due to having a ridiculous number of darts at our disposal. For the newcomers, make sure you're darts are up to specifications. I don't want any cheap maneuvers like extra BBs under washers. All tips must be either the standard 1/8" Thick McMaster felt pads or Craft Foam that is at least 2mm thick. Make sure the washers are being covered properly by padding.

I see so much new blood posting for this war it friggin' gets me supahjacked! I'm looking forward to new faces and seeing different playing styles.

That being said, if this is your first war don't make the two big mistakes I made my first few: bring well over 200 darts, 500 is good unless you are staying only a half day. AND...please bring 2-3 primaries: because 1-2 WILL break, or malfunction, or end up sucking. Just been my experience, I want everyone to have maximum hella fun time.

The last 2 of these I went to I just wore my normal vison glasses and didnt have any issues- in fact 1 of them I spent most of the time wandering through the middle of the battlefield policing darts while people were still shooting at each other. got hit quite a few times(in the face once or twice) and it never really bothered me- I kinda stick out so most of the time people avoided shooting me(probly cause I outweight some of them by about 100 pounds)- also cause they knew what i was doing and were very happy i was doing it- largly cause it left more time for battles and less ammo retreival.

but yeah your normal galsses should be fine- stock darts wont hurt em and any custom darts are now supposed to be padded so they shouldnt hurt them ether. if you really feel that they wont be enough protection- get a pair of safty gogles and wear those over them.

If you're under 18 your prescription eyeglasses should be polycarb/impact resistant, they're required to sell them to minors that way.

Of course, if they're hit right the lens could still pop out. Back when we used glue domes I always wore an old pair in case they broke. With slugs I just wear my normal pair, partially because I got them super cheap off the internet and I don't care if I have to replace them. They took a hit from a slug dart at cataclysm and didn't even get scratched, so I'm not too worried about that ever happening.

I would recommend against just those as eye protection. The reason is that if they aren't shatter resistant the lenses could get broken and the frames could get bent or damaged either way. I'd recommend picking up chemistry goggles to fit over your glasses to protect the lenses and frames.

I'm going to add the information for a back-up location as soon as I make a decision on one. Normally if there are reservations at Highland Park, it's just the Pagoda Shelter, and we have been able to simply move to another part of the park (it's massive and has varied terrain). If for whatever reason we get totally booted from the park, it would be good to have a back-up plan. I checked the St. Paul Parks website; it looks like the Pagoda shelter has already been reserved for the duration of this war, but that happens pretty much every year. The first post of this thread will be updated by tomorrow with the official decision on the back-up location and the procedures involving it.

OMG I know- ive already got 6 people intrested that are planning on showing up and one of my freinds just Asked me if he could bring some more. This war is going to be a blast- Im just hoping the park or police dont get upset- im not sure on the policy for that park but dont most of them require you to have a permit for gatherings over 25? cause from the way this is looking- its going to be 40-50 people.
