I am into nerf and I am into metal castings and forging. It was only a while before I put 1 and 2 together. A nerf gun made out of 100% metal with a monster of a spring in it. I think it would be cool, but it is basically turning nerf guns into real gun. It will still shoot a dart and be super cool. Before I put all the effort into the idea I would like some other opinions and if anybody would be willing to buy it. I have not determined a price because I have to set the price after words because of cost of material and effort. Pleas give me your opinion and any ideas of what I should do or problems I may run into.

good luck...

EDIT: Thats kind of the response I was going for Kid Flash. Almost not even worth the trouble... Why would you need a metal blaster anyways? Alot of plastics are immensely strong as is.

This defeats the purpose of nerf... We aren't playing paintball or airsoft here.

EDIT: It seems that nerfomania and I posted at the same time. In regards to his link, that is something just next to no one can replicate (in our hobby). It looks realistic as well, which falls into what I said before. Keep the realistic stuff to airsoft, or else you're not taking it to any nerf war I'm at. At most wars, the host will just look at it and say no.

I think that it could be a niche market. Not wide spread and under mass demand. I would like a metal nerf gun but not of any current models. Basically I want the awesome Boltsniper gun.

Depending on the price you might want to look into casting stronger casts of Longshot bolt sleds and plunger tubes.

Also weight is a factor. Black Tactical of Singapore makes metal LS plunger catches and spring rest. They also make recon plungertubes and catches out of metal.

This is your best bet. There is always a demand for replacement parts, but reinforced once are even more appealing. This way, you get the strength and reliability without making the overall weight skyrocket.

Somewhere in the Homemades Pictures thread someone made an all aluminum +bow, that's the closest I've seen.

Plastic is stronger than you may think. It is lighter, too, so if you do a heavy barrel tap, no one will get hurt too bad. And you also dont need a monster spring to make an effective gun. For two dollars I made a LAMP out of a water piston from $.99 store and a coupler, and with an 18" RSCB hit 60'. Also try making a high efficiency HAMP with a real seal on it.

Thank for the information. I will look into reinforcing and casting parts for multiple guns I guess I will start with the long shot. I will be back with more information with the parts later once I have perfected them. If you have any other tips or ideas that would be cool.

A better idea would be milling, water jet cutting, or laser cutting. Casting is harder than you think (believe me, I've done it.).

Knowing how to do metal castings and forgings can be very helpful for this hobby for parts of favorite guns that have a tendency to break. A nerfer from Singapore was selling Big Blast aluminum triggers with great success as they would be very unlikely to break. The same guy started in the works of aluminum bolt sleds, also very handy to have.

Personally I have been making a push for an aluminum pump action shotgun catch trigger. I've gone through too many of those and I'm getting fed up.

Crooked: Did you see that guy who singled a doomsayer?

Pearson: Why would you single a doomsayer? Thats like taking a Ferarri and putting family seating in it.

If you send me pictures and dimension I will try. It may take months because I do not have access to my furnace for several months, but I could get all of the dimensions ready and set up to make it as quick as possible. Just post them in the thread.

I'd be in for metal parts for reinforcing. Also sometimes based on application Metal might be an appropriate material for small or partial shells. (like a new shell for my Titan so i can rig it under-barrel on my Stampede.)

This is just opening up all kind of new cool ideas. I am on vacation so I cannot use my blast furnace, but I will get to it. Send me the info on what you want and I will try to make it. I may do a few free requests as long as they are not ridiculous. I cannot guarantee good results that are why I will do a few free ones first. I will not charge as much as other sites do like Black Tactical. It is way easier to get aluminum than you would think it is. That lowers the cost of all of my products. I just have to melt soda cans down and scrape out the impurities. Soda can are 99$ aluminiau aluminiam. Send me pictures of parts you want made and dimensions and I will try to replicate them out of metal. Like I said it will be a LONG time before I can get to the furnace.

I just thought of one thing you should try, assuming you have the proper tools and machinery. Many people have been wanting reinforced gears for their stampede's. If you can pull that off, then the stampede will have the capability of being one hell of a monstrosity. Even aluminum gears would probably suffice for most weight loads, which in turn, would cut down cost. I don't have a stampede so I don't have any dimensions for you. I prefer homemades rather than modifying, but if you get some quality parts fabricated then I will plan on raiding the nerf section at my local walmart.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?
