The Ohio Playdate Presents: REVOLUTION

Date: March 19th, 2011

Time: The festivities start at 9 AM.

Where: Mt. Echo Park

Address: 381 Elberon Avenue, Cincinnati, OH

http://maps.google.c...1,0.013711&z=16

What to bring:
-Blasters, enough for yourself, your guests, and back ups aswell
-Darts, same as above(slugs or stock only)
-Food and water, or money to get it
-As many guests as possible, remember the more the merrier
-Trade fodder, for after the fun!

What not to bring:
-Homemade air blasters
-Plugged Blasters
-Singled and/or plugged titans
-Singled jobars, cobras, and anything that is meant to unclog a drain
-Anything that could easily be mistaken for a real weapon, including real weapons
-Drugs or alcohol, we don't want to give Nerf a bad name

Darts and Blasters:
-To prevent(and at the risk of increasing) further confusion, let's talk darts. My compatriates and I have discussed this at length, and there truly is no reason to use dome darts these days. The commonly-used blasters fire well[hard] enough that slugs reach more-than sufficient ranges in any practical situation. That being said, what is a slug? The common slug is a washer + felt "dot" sandwich atop your foam blank. It creates a uniform dart for all.

-For the sake of argument(and to address Coop's question in this thread), I'll allow a 3/0 fishing weight or lighter UNDER A FELT DOT and with no dome present. This means the weight will need to be recessed into the foam, with a secure layer of hot glue over it, then the felt atop that. DARTS WILL BE INSPECTED IF NEED BE. Anything heavier than a 3/0 weight(I'm talking about you, slingshot weight) will be disqualified from use.

-Likewise, any blaster deemed too powerful[read: dangerous] will be removed from play during the course of the war. The blasters listed specifically above and any that fails any number of tests we may conduct will not be allowed.

-Relying on the scavenging of darts is discouraged. It's easy to show up with a minimal amount of darts and scavenge for the rest of the day, but it can be a hinderance to the people who come prepared, with an ample amount of darts. After regular dart sweeps, everyone will dump all of the picked-up darts so their owners can recover them. This will ensure that play isn't interrupted. We recommend a minimum of 200 darts per player to begin the day.

-We're working on other details right now, look for updates as we go along.(*cough* tshirts *cough*)

Ok, now I'm confused. Where the heck is Brit gonna be on the 19th exactly? Or any of these days exactly? Is he going from this war to the one at Boone Woods in the same day?

EDIT: Ah crap, in that case I am to understand then that he >won't< be at Boone Woods?

Assuming that this is the actual thread and not the previous thread, I'll be representing Illinois and will be there.

Sounds like I've got a trip to plan then. Hopefully I'll have other people with me than just me to represent the Chicago area. I'll have to build a giant foam fork for the Ohio playdate people. Stuff to do, stuff to do...

If you are wanting to carpool, you could post your city/state and BrokenSVT could edit it into the first post.

That's what we're planning. It's just easier this way.

I'm a definite on this one. Will work on recruiting people to come down with me.

Slugs? I suck at making those, for some dumb reason. But I fail at simple things in general

It's okay Buff, I suck at them too. Hence why I'll be using stock darts.

Could we please define what a "slug dart" is? Is it the use of a washer, felt pad, or the combination of both? I really hate using washers because I feel they are the weak point that falls apart first (washer/foam bond). Also, the diameter of the washer interferes with the use of my barrel size slightly, and hinders the performance and accuracy of the dart due to the orientation within the barrel. I could use smaller washers, but using the standard washers give awful ranges and get blown around in the wind too easily as it is, I really don't want to get lighter.

Could I use 3/0 fishing weights with felt pads with your rules? If this type of dart is allowed, I'd understand if you wanted to limit the weight behind the felt pad (like banning 1/4" slingshot weights) because it's still a lot of weight on impact.

I will be traveling from Medway, MA. If anyone would like to carpool and share in the cost of gas along the way that be helpful. I will post the general route later.

Slug darts... darn. I only have single BB darts at the moment... any chance I can use those or buy some darts at the war?

Ditto. Have never made a Slug dart ever.

As to Brit's darts, it's funny because that's exactly the way I make my darts; a washer and dome, minus the cool colors, that is. If Slug darts are going to be mandatory can we just put together a McMaster parts list of what to use? Just something that says use this felt, one of these two washer types (a larger and a smaller, for people with barrel problems), and this adhesive. That way things are clear as to what to be using and we all have time to order from McMaster and make darts in time.
EDIT: people obviously can use their own type of foam though right?

Oh, and what about limitations on hopper length, or hoppers in general?

EDIT 2: taerKitty, that's exactly my point, we need one single source listed for the parts, along with part numbers for each. If the first post could be updated to include this info, making preparations would be much simpler.

EDIT 3: I really don't like to hog thread space, hence the many edits, but anyway: Would the McMaster washers with part number 91083A009 work? They are by far the cheapest I've come across in that general size at only about $0.01 each; when I bought washers from Ace they ran me about 3x that.

I'm three time zones over, so I obviously can't make it, but I'd highly recommend you specify that it be McMaster felt pads. Ace felt pads are about 1/3 less thick, and I can find sheets of self-adhesive felt that are only 1/3 the thickness of McMaster felt at Home Depot. At that point, I may as well just glue green construction paper over the washer.

Also, are you allowing #8 washer darts, or limiting it only to #6?

Lastly, if you want to share washer-dome slugs, here's mine. I'm sure Broke and Flash would love to use these on Brit:

I'm not sure if my dad will allow me driving with some random guy on the internet, but I'm in Yorktown, VA, I can't drive, but I'll inform you if I'm able to be picked up. If you are generous enough to come down here, and my dad allows it, I'll help with paying for gas.
