Its time for the first ever Minnesota Invite Lots of Friends War (and the first war hosted by myself). The main
goal of this war, as with any other, is to have a fun time playing with Nerf blasters. The secondary goal for this
war is to boost numbers and get some new faces introduced to the Minnesota Nerf scene.
While I think we will accomplish our first goal easily, I've decided to offer a little incentive to help with the
second. There will be a Nerf-y prize awarded to whomever brings the most new people with them to play!
(In the event of a tie, there will be a Deathmatch round between the two groups to determine the winner.)
-----------------------------------
The war is on the 20th of November!
A fair amount of people can't make the 27th, and most of those people can do the 20th, so that's when the war is.
Obviously we didn't beat the snow, but I'm hopeful we can all get one or two friends to tough it out with us!
As for location I would like to host it at Oak Hill Park, which is about a block away from my house. We will
meet at the parking lot in the upper area of the park, its at the intersection of Rhode Island Ave. S
and W 33rd street. There are 3 different playgrounds, heavily and sparsely wooded areas, and wide open
baseball and soccer fields. All of them should be empty since its the end of November. There's plenty of
food options nearby, and an Ax-man 3 blocks away.
-----------------------------------
Rules!
I am going to allow melee at this war. I think it's a shame that Nerf is putting out these sweet weapons and
we've been ignoring them. Just keep in mind that your sword/ax/mace/whatever does not block hits unless
you actually have it in your hand and are waving it around!
I'm going to say no on barrel-taps, everybody should be wearing a jacket and dressed warmly, so close range
hits shouldn't hurt. They will definitely hurt a lot less then getting stabbed by uncovered pvc at least.
Slug or Stock darts only so that...
No blasters are banned! (If you've got something that will hurt people even with Slug darts you should totally
bring it anyways, because it's probably pretty sweet and I want to see it shoot through a tree or something.
Just don't expect to use it during a round.)
Eye-protection is a good idea, I don't want to have to take anybody to the hospital. If you're over 18 and
want to get yourself an eyepatch or something I won't require it though, because eyepatches make everyone
way cooler.
Be a good sport! This is just a more polite way of saying don't be a jerk!
-----------------------------------
What to Bring!
Blasters and Darts: Besides your primaries, please bring something low powered or that can at least use stock
darts in case we do a Zombies or Playground round. Also, don't use the fact that your super powered
diddle-blaster "isn't ready yet" as an excuse not to come. I went to my first couple of wars using marker barrels
and stock darts, and still had a great time! That said, make sure to bring whatever impressive looking blasters
you can, for shock and awe factor on teh noobs.
Lunch: Either in a bag or some money for buying it.
Water: is a good idea, I'm not sure that any of the parks drinking fountains will be turned on
Dress for the weather! I'll try to have a fire going to keep warm at, but gloves, hats, and jackets are always good.
-----------------------------------
Schedule!
10am start time! Lunch around 12:30 or 1pm! Ending whenever we get tired after that!
The first few rounds will be some variation of Wingman or a multi-small team game. Rather then gaining lives
back it will probably be something with infinate respawns. I'm thinking each team might have a flag they carry
with them and will have to drop when hit, the object being to collect as many of the other team's flags as
possible. I want everyone to be able to play with their friends at the start of the day to help them learn the
rules and how to play.
In no specific order, we'll also be playing
Mystery VIP: Infinate Respawns until your VIP is hit
Humans Vs. Zombies: Low powered pistols or stock darts only
Playground Round: I don't know exactly what we'll play, but low powered pistols or stock darts only
DTC: Hopefully we can use the big core, otherwise I will bring a smaller one
CTF: Always a favorite
Territories: If I can think up some good rules for this we might do it. I think it has potential, but needs
a lot of tweaking from the last time we tried it.
If we need a tiebreaker Deathmatch for the who can bring the most friends contest, we'll do it right before lunch.
-----------------------------------
Well, that's the plan. Let me know if you're able to attend and if I've forgotten any awesome gametypes we should be playing.
