Hi, I have a Longshot and I want to put a stronger spring in it. I have a BBB and i'm worried that if I put a bbb spring in that longshot that it will break the boltslead. Will it? thanks for the help.

Most likely. Your best bet is to reinforce the boltsled with coathangers, or aluminum. Alternatively, you could order an aluminum longshot boltsled, and never have to worry about it.

Actually, it should be fine. I would order some carbon fiber and epoxy it to the sides using a strong 2 part epoxy as a precaution but it shouldn't break with just a BBB spring added.

I got a hairline crack in the boltsled after priming and shooting my longshot ONCE with a BBB spring in it. So yes, a BBB spring will break a longshot bolt sled, unless you reinforce it, or buy a n aluminium boltsled (Coming soon from Zinv)

Both my gen. 1 longshots have had BBB springs in them for some time and the bolt sleds are still perfect.

Clearly what you're looking for is someone to give you a money back guarantee that you can add a BBB spring and yours won't break.

Well there's a difference between adding a BBB spring and replacing with a BBB spring. The two Longshots I have use only BBB springs in them and I've had no problems with breaking or stress damage without using reinforcement. If you are adding a BBB spring to the stock spring that is most likely too much to be used regularly without reinforcing.

In either event, just reinforce it with any of the methods people have mentioned if you're worried about it breaking. It's probably worth the time and effort put into it.

Yes, they are made with a mold and are pretty consistent in terms of strength. But, there are still a ton of variences with them.

As Brit says, some won't even survive one prime with a BBB spring addition. However, I have a Longshot with a Recon spring (slightly [VERY slightly] weaker than a BBB spring), a stock silver spring, and a Nitefinder spring, and I haven't had any problems yet. And that's with well over 2000 primes.

So it's a gamble either way, but I'd say it's safe to give it a try. However, don't come bitch and moan to us if it breaks because we can't fucking predict the future.

Mine cracked after about 100 primes with a spring addition (after probably 1000 primes with the stock spring only) and it cracked. All I had to do was epoxy some wire pieces on and had no problems since.

What you're looking for is this crude explanation.
Longshot spring- Not very likely to break bolt sled.
Big Bad Bow Spring- Not very likely to break bolt sled.
Big Bad Bow and Longshot Spring- Likely to break due substantial stress.
Big Bad Bow and Longshot Spring with reinforcements- Won't break.

Put the 10 extra minutes in to reinforce it, you'll be glad you did.

Ok here's a question(s) posted for my little bro who has a LS, would a [k25] be a good replacement spring by itself for the LS? Or a [k26]? Would the boltsled need to be reinforced in either/both cases?

My advice is to air on the side of caution and reinforce whatever you would like not to break. Now, I'm closing this thread before people assume it's a catch all "will this break my gun" thread.
